Hello. I'm a single mom with a very limited budget. I would like to take my boys (3 & 13) on a mini vacation somewhere here in Texas, but not Galveston (been there, done that many times!)
A few more details... We'll be driving, we live about an hour southeast of Dallas, anywhere with swimming would be awesome, and we love free stuff! Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Not sure where in Texas you'd like to go or how far you're wanting to drive. If you decide on an area you can google free things to do in that city.
In Fort Worth the botanical gardens are beautiful. Twice daily they do a cattle drive in the stock yards. There are several Hawaiian Falls water parks in the area of Dallas. They are smaller water parks and you can get coupons online.
Austin is a nice city with a huge lake where you can canoe or kayak. The parks there are amazing. There's also a spring fed pool that's a constant 68 degrees. Barton Springs Pool is the name of it. There is moss on the bottom though and it's quite slippery. You could tour the capitol building. If you decide to go there it is cheaper to stay in Round Rock, Cedar Springs or one of the more outlying areas.

New Braunfel is a great place to go. Take them to Schlitterbaun. go on Group on and see if there are any coupons.
San Antonio has six flags and Sea World. You can get coupons for them as well.
North of Houston, in Spring, is Splashtown which is a water park. Lots of fun and again coupons are available.
I'd go to Austin. Lots of fun stuff. Check out Groupon. They regularly have great deals in Austin (hotels, tubing, tours, food etc.) Have fun!!
