Christening Gift Ideas

Hi I just bought this bracelet for a friends baby's christening. Just a cute token & they could wear it the day of the christening.

I find lots of christening gift ideas from a web site called www.personalcreations.com. Definately some unique stuff and not crazy price wise. Good luck.

Picture Frames are always a nice gift. They have ones at Hallmark stores that are Christening themed, so the frames can display photos from that special day.

Keepsake boxes are another idea - I've seen boxes big enough to hold the Christening outfit, the candle and other items from the day. I know that as a parent, I always need help figuring out how to store things!

And of course, you can never go wrong with money.

There's a little store in Newburyport called Pumpkin Patch that has these fancy little shoes for about that much, and also, a fancy giraffe bank for kids. Also, how about a book of prayers for children or an arts and crafts cross?

hello, I just attended my great nephew's christening this past weekend. I gave him/his parents some $ for his bank account and a hard cover story book. (he's only 2.5 months old) The book was about a farm, and I live on a working dairy farm. W. Huff

How about wooden rosary beads? My neice got a set and they are big and chunky and in primary colors. They are really cool! Another thought is a children's bible book.

Although the economy is not that great; you must think long term for kids :-) US Savings Bonds are a great gift and you can get 2 (one for each) $50.00 bonds and only pay $25 each. You can order them either on-line or at your local bank and they will give you gift certificates for them. Have them made out to the child but sent to YOU and this way they will remember who gave the bonds to them. Be sure to put the Mom or Dad on as the Beneficiary.

By the time the kids are ready to cash them in (for college or later than that) they should hopefully reach full face value or even more.

My kids received a lot of bonds for their Chirstenings and I like that they got those better than cash - this way I was not tempted to spend it (on them) on silly things.

My son's godparents gave him a nice hard cover children's book about Noah's Ark, which I thought was a great idea. I don't know where they got it, but I'm sure you can find similar things online.

Get two silverplated baby cups, with their names engraved on it. (or their initials.)

In my day a savings certificate from the bank was a welcome christening gift, and twenty five dollars for each child is a generous amount.
It is more practical than trying to think of something a child needs when you do not really know.
Or trying to purchase something that will last forever.
The savings certificates usually were the start of a savings account and did last until the child grew up.
How refreshing to know that christenings are still going on and attended by family.

I always get a nice cross that can be engraved with the child's name and date they were Christened. It is something I also asked for all my children. It costs about 17.00 for the cross plus engraving. It is usually just under 25.00. Hope this helps!

You can start with a nice Token gift like a Prayer Book or Child/Mom Bibble. However, you can give anything from clothes, money, or gift cards. Good luck & happy shopping.

In my opinion the best gift for any occasion is the word of God! There own first little bible. They have ones with pictures that are put in very simple terms for them to understand when mom and dad read to them. Its the greatest gift you could ever give to a child and you will only spend about $30 for both bibles! God loves his children!

My MIL gave each of our kids a really nice ceramic piggy bank and a bond. You could skip the bond and put a few dollars in the bank to start them off. My kids love to add to the pig!

We always give savings bonds. You buy them for $25, and they will be worth $50 in 5 years. A lot of people gave them to us when my daughter was baptised, and at 20 months now, she has almost $2000 (face value) in bonds for her future. We plan on giving them to her when she goes to college like my parents did. It was so nice for me to get that extra chunk of money when I needed it :)

I like to give the Fisher-Price Little People Noah's Ark and/or Nativity set! You could give one of each!

I have given a musical snow globe as a Christening gift before. They are available at Things Remembered and you can get it engraved with the baby's name and birthdate if you want.

Normally for a christening I give monetary gifts, because most parents put that money away in a savings account, etc. Or you could do a savings bond. That way they can put money away for college or whatever.

One of the favorite gifts that was given to my daughter was a church bag. It is basically a book bag that has church stories in it - like david and goliath - that can keep them entertained at church.
