Cleaning Kitchen Floor

I have an old 1987 linoleum floor. It has grooves in it that collects dirt and has had dirt in it when we bought the mobile home. Mopping does not get all the dirt out. I tried scrubbing with a brush which does not get it all out either. Does anyone know of any type of cleaner that might work.

What can I do next?

I had the same problem in our mobile home at one time and I had to use a floor stripper and a brush to get the dirt out of the grooves. I tried everything...expensive floor cleaner, ammonia, vinegar..etc.

I'd try an Oxi-Clean type of paste with a stiff brush, or green scouring pad and plenty of elbow grease if the floor isn't too huge. That is my go-to product :)

Or as a another person mentioned, you may need to "strip" off the wax. There may be a coating of wax over the dirt that may need to be removed. I know plenty of people who put wax on no-wax floors... Then seal/wax it after you have stripped it.

I'm no professional, this is just what I would try...
years ago I had old linoleum with those tiny pocket bumps too, hated it. It was huge floor though, and I borrowed one of those huge rotating machines with a scouring pad and had to strip mine, and rewax it. It was the only thing that worked, and what a difference. There may be small ones you can rent? Otherwise - hands and knees :)

Good luck

Have you tried the magic eraser sponge? It works wonders on "grooved" surfaces. It would be a lot of work with just a small sponge but check and see if it works - may be worth the effort once in awhile! Best of luck!

M.,
What about an area rug? Sometimes it's not worth the effort to try and fix something like that.... and if you wait for a sale an area rug can be very inexpensive.

Just remember to get a rug with the sticky pad back or you can buy the stick pad seperate almost anywhere and cut it to fit. You don't want to slip and fall.
