My 14 month old son hates having his nails clipped. This just started, as he's always sat perfectly still before. Does anyone have any good tricks or suggestions other than trimming while sleeping?
We're not big on letting our 13 month old watch tv, but I clip her nails once a week and let her watch this baby sign language dvd she really likes. It's not a perfect setup as she likes to point at things and "talk" about them, but I just talk with her about what we see and over the course of ten minutes or so I can usually get both hands and both feet clipped.
Just use a finger nail file for awhile. It may take a little longer but it will work.
Same thing happened to us with our son. We let him watch Little Einsteins when we clip his nails. It's been working so far. *knock on wood*
Same thing happened with my son. I started clipping his sister's or pretent to cut mine on front of him with interesting sounds (Wow. Look at that.. silly but needed to get his attention) and soon he wanted to have his cut. It takes a while as he loses interest but then I "clip" mine and then he is back.
we do it while our daughter is in the bath tub. we tell her that we have to clean her hands and that her nails are "dirty" and it has become something that she likes to do. i hope that helps some. good luck
I sing my son's favorite song. Sometimes I only get 3-4 nails done before he wiggles out of my arms, but given a couple of hours, I can get them done a few at a time.
Also try right before they go to sleep. When they are already tired and less likely to fight you.
