Clothing Snaps, Anyway to Reinforce Them or Make Them Stronger?

I bought a super adorable set of bibs from Gap. They are expensive boogers, and I can't find the receipt to return them. They were fine when I first put them on. If not a little loose. NOW after washing, and I put them back on a second time. The snaps are so weak. Any real rambunctious movements and they pop right open. They are heavy denim to begin with. They snap all along the crotch and sides. It seems ALL the snaps are doing it. Is there way to pinch them with a pliers or something?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

they are not too small, they are actually a little too big and baggie. They are metal snaps, but they are just really weak thanks for all the ideas

I really don't think you can make snaps stronger. My idea is that if they keep popping open, the article of clothing is too small for the person wearing them. I am very sorry...I know what a bummer it is to have a super cute piece of clothing and not have it work/function/fit like you want it to. I bought a sweatshirt for my youngest last year for Christmas that was SUPER cute, and I bought it 2 sizes bigger than she was wearing to get use out of it...and it shrunk so bad she only got to wear it for a few months. :( Paid too much for it, too.

Contact the Gap - you'd be surprised at how far they will go to give good customer service. Start by calling customer service and they will tell you how to proceed.

Good luck.

First off, do they pop off of the child? Snap them together and see how loose they are off the child, and if they stay well, the bib is too small.

To comment on the work of a tailor:

My Mother is a tailor, as am I(though not as good as she is), you will NOT be able to replace the snaps.

These days they are fitted exactly, and the holes made by the industrial punch to set them are not strong enough to hold a new set. Take it back to Gap, tell them what happened, and try for a replacement, or store credit.

The only thing I can think of is getting longer snaps and tops and redoing them with a pliers. It sounds like they used the wrong size for the fabric thickness.

Good luck to you.

PS You can find the snaps and pliers in Hobby Lobby, Walmart or any other sewing store like Joanns and Hancocks.

I would talk to the Gap. Store credit is better than nothing.
Otherwise the tailor sounds like a good idea for snaps or maybe sew on Velcro.

Take them to the dryclearner/tailor and have the snaps either replaced or reinforced. I had to do this with a silk dress from Ann Taylor years ago. I LOVED the dress, but the damn plastic snap came undone every time I moved. It is a wrap dress, so let's just say it was highly inappropriate! It cost me about $15 and was worth the investment.

A baby item may not be worth the investment, but you could find out what they would charge you. Otherwise, try returning them to the GAP. You never know what they will take back. Talk with the manager and see if they would be willing to give you store credit.
