My family & I are trying to plan a trip for Spring Break. We want to go somewhere "tropical". We have four small children,so someplace like Cancun is out of the question. Our only problem is that we've never really been anywhere. We've always put off vacations because I was pregnant or the baby was always too young. Now, I need a break! Nothing extremely expensive, though with four kids everything gets expensive. I just need to be pointed in the right direction. I have my eye on the Caribbean, but not set on it. Maybe Mexico? I don't know! Has anybody else been somewhere that they just loved? Help! I'm afraid if I don't book now, there won't be anywhere to go.

We took a cruise a few weeks ago and it was really great! You can get in on some of the cruises at really great prices, but my guess is that they'll be busy over Spring Break. We went with Royal Caribbean, and they have great programs for kids 3 and up. There isn't much for kids under that age.

We also went and stayed at the Iberostar resort in Cozumel a few years ago. This would be a great place for kids... because there's the beach, the pool, and they have a kids club where they do a lot of neat things. It's all inclusive... and the food is incredible!! You can fly sraight on to the Island, so that's nice. A resort might still have some "Spring-Breakers"... but my guess is that it will be more family oriented.

Have you considered taking a Carnival Cruise out of Galveston? My husband and I went last Summer and were quite surprised by the amount of kiddos onboard and the amount of planned activities they had for them (if we had known, we would have taken our son with us). The kids seemed to be having a a GREAT time and the parents seemed to enjoy having a little "R and R" without the kids.

I would definitely go to Mexico over the Caribbean because of cost. Mexico is much cheaper. There are some really great places outside of Cancun that are some of the newest and nicest. (Playa de Carmen, etc) Make sure and look for family resorts that are all-inclusive. have a great time. L.

We took out children with us to Cancun. We had a great time, we went through funjet and stayed all inclusive at the MOON PALACE. It was so nice! We went swimming and hung out at the beach and did some tours. It was great, and our girls loved it!

Hi J.,

Playa del Carmen would be nice...It is outside of Cancun by about 30 min or so, best I can remember so it is not as commercial. My husband and I stayed at Riu Palace...this is an all inclusive and is family friendly....even though we did not have a child at the time, we went with some friends(that had a 4 year old and a two year old) that did...they renewed their wedding vows on the beach. This is a beautiful hotel ...with a great beach and pools, and live entertainment at night. We have been twice and really enjoyed it both times...and it is not incredibly expensive. Hope you find the perfect spot to get away!

You could always take a Disney cruise to the Caribbean. They offer classes for the kids and allow you and your husband some time alone. The inside rooms arn't too expensive.

We just bought my daughter a new sleeping bag that pumps up. I found it at Target. We got her the Cinderella one, but they have others. It gives them something comfortable to sleep on. When not in use it rolls up to a small back pack. It's great and keeps you from needing an extra bed when traveling. It keeps the cost way down and it's fun to have for sleep over partys.

It is still continental, but I love Destin, Florida. The beaches are gorgeous, you could drive if you wanted to do so from this area. I have heard good things about the beaches in Alabama-- Gulf Shores, I think? Not sure how they fared after the hurricanes, but I know that Destin is still lovely.

My famiy and I love Puerto Vallarta (we've been several times). It is not near as expensive as Cancun and has a wonderful "Old World" feel, where Cancum is very much like Miami. There are many hotels that are all-inclusive so if you plan to hang at the hotel, it is well worth it. Though I would recommend eating outside the hotel at least once. Taxis are inexpensive (just make sure to negotiate price before the ride), and the kids will love it. Suggestion - depending on the hotel - if it doesn't come in a bottle - don't drink it!
