Could It Be Reflux? - Racine,WI

My DD is 7 mo and for all intents and purposes a smiley, happy baby, but is having issues with throwing up since we started solids.

She has never been a good sleeper-to date she has never slept more then 5 hours in a row. But never threw up in the early months or showed other signs of reflux. Now suddenly it seems it we feed her 'to much' she throws up, (solids or bottle), has the hiccups a bit more and still doesn't sleep great. BUT at night she wants the bottle and after goes to sleep on her back without much fuss...so for a long time we've just thought it was our fault for not breaking her of her midnight feedings and it's just habit. But now with the puking after feedings I'm beginning to wonder-it's not every feeding though and not the same foods.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if it's reflux...but can you develop reflux later? And does she really have all the symptoms?

What can I do next?

Maybe she's eating and drinking faster than before and swallowing a lot more air? My youngest puked after every feeding for about 7 months... no one wanted to hold him unless it was face out because it was projectile to the max most of the time.... and that was just from nursing. Naturally I wouldnt lay him down to sleep or left unattended until I knew he did his projectile otherwise I would be scared he would choke on it. It did go away tho. He was a crazy nurser, like it was the last boob he might ever see, so I think a lot of it was air and just the plain old normal immature digestive system working together.

I personally don't think a 7 month old needs solids. Breastmilk has all the nutrition they, or formula if that's what she's having. If she is 'mooching' when you eat, give her teeny tiny peices to try, but her primary source of food should be bottle/breast until at least 9 months and beyond.

I don't think it's an issue of feeding her "too much" - she's probably having trouble digesting the food. I have many friends who solved this with their children by using a liquid nutritional supplement made specifically for children - let me know if you want more info or want to connect with other parents. It makes SO much more sense than putting these infants on drugs!

It sounds like too much air in her belly. When solids are new, babies gulp alot of air. Pat her belly after feeding her----does it sound hollow and feel tight? If so, burp her and see if that helps. Air can bring everything up if there's a big bubble. If sleeping in an upright position helps her, it may be reflux. Good luck.

Looks like reflux. For spit ups babies magic tea can be a good solution. It's natural and herbal, so safe for newborns.

My daughter has reflux and when it isn't properly medicated, she spits up, but not vomiting--just a little bit of spit with food in it. If it is more than that, it might be a food allergy or sensitivity. It might be worth talking with a medical professional to get it sorted out. Good luck.
