My nipple has been very painful at times. It gets dry and cracked sometimes it has a brownish and kind of bloody discharge due to the cracking. I've been having this issue with my left nipple and I'm wondering if any women out there is having the same problems and what can I use to treat it. I have five kids and this never had happened to me until now. I desperately need advice or whatever I can get.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Seems like all those advice you caring ladies were right. After I read them use some of those techniques, it actually resolve my problem. I didn't even have to make a trip the doctor or to the pharmacy. I just rubbed some therapy lotion over night and then again this morning. It actually seems like the dryness and cracking is slowly healing. I haven't felt pain free in a while. The itching has also stopped too. I couldn't have done this without you ladies advice. Thank you so much!

I don't want to be an alarmist, but you should definitely see whoever does your well-woman exam--it is probably nothing, but changes like that should be examined.

If it turns out to be just some dry skin, a bit of bag balm ought to heal it right up.

I second lanolin for the cracking and itching. It was a lifesaver for me while nursing.

For cracked nipples, I've used lanolin. You can find it in the baby department of stores like Target and Walmart.

Are you breastfeeding? If so, it could be irritation from breastfeeding, yeast or something along those lines. If you are not breastfeeding, and it has been a long time since you breastfed and you have a bloody discharge from your nipple, you need to see a doctor to rule out breast cancer.

I definitely think you need to contact your OB/GYN about this right away. The brownish, bloody discharge would be a concern to me. It may be nothing, it could be something as simple as a yeast infection, but it definitely needs to be examined by a professional.

Get it looked at right away. Might be nothing but better safe than sorry.
