Head & Shoulders! I used it on my baby (who has a lot of hair) and it works wonders. J&J and other brands like that dry the scalp HORRIBLY!
How do I get rid of craddle cap on an 18m old with a head full of hair?! Thanks!
Thank you to everyone for your advice! I used olive oil and combed up the dry patches and could not believe all the flakes that came up! Then I gave him a bath & scrubbed a bit harder when I shampoo-ed him and most of the flakes are gone! I'll try it a few more times until it's all cleared up. Thanks again!
I took him to the dermatologist on Saturday. He said I could start using adult shampoo on him now. He gave me T-Gel by Neutrogena. Not sure of the results yet...thanks!

my daughter was a lot younger, but i went with the old-school method which always worked: once you have her in the bathtub and her hair's wet, put some baby oil and massage it in, then comb thru hair with a very fine comb, wash as usual, and repeat. for both of my children it took a couple weeks of doing that and it worked :)

there is oil you can buy at natural food store.. good luck,
my daughter had bad cradle cap as a newborn but outgrew it and she is 14 months and it just came back. i would not use any types of oils.. it may help the flakes but it dries out their hair so much!! my daughters had was gettin so brittle from rubbin oil on her scalp. i would try a little head and shoudlers or there is a baby shampoo for cradle cap. that works great and its gentle on their hair
baby oil.....and be sure to comb it - but don't pull or you will pull the hair right out and leave a bald patch. My husband's son from his first marriage had cradle cap alot. Put it on a few nights and comb it out gently......Johnson and Johnson also sells something for cradle cap. My sister in law used it. Good Luck
We tried the baby oil and all the other remedies that the baby book suggested. Our pediatrician recommended Head and Shoulders shampoo. Wet the hair, apply the shampoo and let it sit for about five minutes and then using your fingers rub the scull pretty brisk and rinse - we saw improvement with first treatment. The hardest part is keeping it out of their eyes! Good luck.
My youngest had cradle cap very badly and lots of hair. I use Arbonne's Baby Wash (hair and body) after using the Arbonne Baby Oil and combing it through. Within something like a week or two the cradle cap was gone and never came back. :)

I also suggest what everyone else advised. Did the craddle cap just start up? My son had really bad craddle cap for the first 8 months, and we found out he had food allergies that was causing it. Maybe ask his pediatrician of reasons why its happening? Also my son was prescribed a cream that we applied to his head each night and it worked wonders! Good luck!
a nurse just told me to use head and shoulders sensitive-make sure it is the sensitive type as any of the others would be too harsh for a little one.
baby oil over night and then a bath, good luck
I used olive or other natural oil (apricot was another one), left it on for an hour or two, washed hair, gently combed it off. My first had cradle cap until she was 2, believe it or not. (She also had the most hair)
put on a lot of conditioner in the bath and comb it out with a fine tooth comb. Then shampoo. May take a few baths to get it all. Good luck. Shampoo after.
Try a little olive oil and use a baby comb to get it under the dry patches. Then give him a nice warm bath!
My daughter is 8 months now, and she came out with full hair too. I usually put some oils to her head and gently massage before giving her a bath so that cradle cap will soften a little bit. It works for my baby!

Hi, L.. The treatment is not really necessary since it goes away on its own for most babies. From my personal experience (and my pediatrician agreed), the best remedy is olive oil. I would not buy any lotions or special shampoos as some of them may make the condition even worse.
Apply olive oil to your baby's head 1/2 hr to 1 hr before bathtime, brush the hair with a soft brush and then wash off with warm water (add mild baby shampoo, if desired).
DO NOT wash your baby's hair EVERY day. Skip a day or 2 or 3. Good Luck!!
Mineral oil is what I have always heard of. I used it on my first child.
My son had the same thing til he was 2 1/2! I tried baby oil, olive oil and coming, shampooing afterwards, antidandruff shampoo, nothing worked. I finally tried Gental Naturals Cradle Cap wash. IT WORKED! within 2 uses, it was gone and has not returned!
L., I was suggested (for all three of my boys had the same problem) by a home visting nurse to put baby oil in the hair and then comb it. You may haveto do it more than just one day of it, but it'll work. It's amazing something simple like that works. Pray for you for Jesus's Wisdom for you if you ask.
