Help! My 4 month old baby has cradle cap! I read about different treatments online. The one that sounds the easiest is rubbing vasceline on the baby's head. What do you all think? Have any of you had babies with cradle cap? If so, how did you treat it? Thanks!

What can I do next?

We used the Baby Oil Gel in Lavender and a fine tooth comb. His Dad held him while I combed the flakes out of his hair. I only had to do it once and we haven't had a problem since then! He also had some flakes on his forehead and cheek. I rubbed the gel in and it was gone!

We used olive oil and it worked great. Let it sit for a few minutes and then use a soft brush in circular motion. Be sure to wash his hair really well afterward to remove all the oil. I think it took me 2 applications of shampoo to get it all.

ETA: I agree 100% with Tracie O. Be sure to keep any oil just on the scalp. If a child inhales an oil, it can end up coating the lungs and cause serious respiratory distress.

Baby oil and a sof baby brush or comb did the trick for us every time!! Just put some on his head and rub the brush in circles to help encourage the cradle cap to come off. Best of luck! ~A.~

I was told to use Paul Mitchell "Baby Dont Cry" shampoo. You can get a "travel" size (which lasts forever) for really cheap.

Bought this stuff at the grocery store, I am sure Walmart carries it too: http://www.gentlenaturals.com/products/cradle_cap.cfm

I only used it when we saw a problem creeping up and it seemed to take care of it. We used this and then brushed his hair really well.

I used the baby shampoo from Mustela that was designed for cradle cap. Worked like a dream.

Our pediatrician told us to use Head and Sholders. we did that about 3 or 4 times and it never came back.

All of mine had it when they were babies and it goes away.

You can clean it up if you want, but it will end. The baby oil and combing with a fine tooth baby comb are what I did. But I like the sound of the olive oil better. Baby oil can be very dangerous is inhaled (and don't think it can't happen... it has so becareful with it).

I agree with Stacy B. Gentle Naturals (got mine at CVS + they have it at Target) worked beautifully on my twins. Took it right away with a little light combing. I'd say it was completely gone within 3 treatments.
