My 8 months baby girl does not want to crawl or even play on the floor. She just sits where ever I place her & does not move. She's my 2nd child. My first child was crawling at 6 months. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

My grandson is 13 months old and still has no interest in crawling. It will come, they may be older and walking first.

every child is different - don't panic! My second child was 17 months old and never crawled - but did start to walk. She is a perfectly normal adult today.

Don't worry. My mom said I was almost 2 years old before I walked and she said I absolutely NEVER crawled. I would just sit where ever they put me and not move. She teased that should could have sat me on the edge of a bridge and I wouldn't have fallen off. lol. The day she brought my little brother home from the hospital after being born, I stood up and walked across the room to see him and never stopped after that.
I have 5 kids (4 of which are toddler and up) and they began to be mobile around 8 months and the middle 3 walked by the time they were 12 months (my first daughter walked at 9 months). However, my first born hardly crawled and never walked until he was about a year and a half. This is what brought up my story with my mom because I remember asking her if this was normal. I think the others went earlier because they were trying to keep up with the siblings. At her next baby checkup just mention it to her PED and she can check for muscle tone and I'm sure it'll be ok.

my daughter is now 22 months and never crawled. she would sit where i put her from 5.5 months until 14.5 months when she started walking. i was so worried but now i look back and giggle because its just her personality to hang out and take it all in :) relax and let her take her time, she will be fine! before you know it she will be running...

I've got three children and the one thing I know from experience is that every child hits their milestones differently. Relax and enjoy the fact that she's not yet mobile and therefore not getting into everything! :-) Some children even skip crawling all together. My oldest and youngest were about 10 months old when they really started to crawl, while my middle child was about 8-9 months. Six months is actually pretty impressive for crawling. So this is definitely not something to worry about.

Both of my kids did not crawl until 10-11 months. Enjoy it while she is not mobile. :)

I think it's the difference between different kids and their individual personalities.

Our son was crawling at 8 months, but didn't walk until after his first birthday. he had no confidence. Our daughter was much more advanced and confident.

Here's what the American Academy of Pediatrics has to say about what the developmental milestones should be at this age. Personally, I believe your baby is right on track - just doing it on different terms.

My first kiddo was very laid back and didn't feel the need to crawl until a couple of days before he turned 10 months, and then didn't walk until 13 months - and started climbing the same day! He just was content where he was and felt no need to put in any extra effort! My second was higher energy and ready to be on the go, so he started crawling around 8 months.

Our oldest never crawled at 10 1/2 months he just got up and walked one day, he had not really even been pulling up much before he started walking. Is your older child giving the younger child things. I found that happened a lot the younger one never had to reach for toys because the older one just kept changing them out for him.

My friends daughter rarely crawled, she just wasn't interested. One day she figured out how to stand up and hold on to furniture and walk to get around. She did that for a few months before finally walking on her own. I wouldn't be concerned with her not crawling. You could try teaching her to stand, it could motivate her to move around without having to crawl on the floor.

My son wasn't interested either and then one day at about 8 1/2 months he took off crawling to get a musical toy he wanted. Your daughter may just be waiting for the right motivation :) As long as she is healthy, just enjoy the fact that you always know where your daughter is because once she starts moving, you'll constantly have to watch her!

I understand your concern but I honestly don't think you should worry. My second also was not crawling by 8 months then 10 months then a year...nor was she walking at that point, pulling up or even acting interested in it. Took her to the Dr. and went through a bunch of stuff (ECI) long story short turns out she had low muscle tone but other than that there was nothing wrong with her....I was told kids with low muscle tone take longer to do things. anyway she started to walk at 17 months and then crawled at like 20 or 21 months. She is now 27 months old and runs and is perfectly fine. My first crawled at 8 months and was walking by 10 months so I know how hard it is to compare but try not to they are all different. Yours may just be happy watching for now. Good luck and before you know it you will have two wild indians like I do :)

Honestly, they don't consider crawling a milestone because some kids just never do. My 1st didn't crawl until 11 months so I know from experience, it's nothing to be concerned with, but you can mention it to her doctor at her 9 mo check-up.

I understand what your going through. My daughter would not crawl for anything not me or my husband. One afternnon a friend came over to vist, put her arms out to pick her up and away my daughter went. She crawled right to her. I couldn't believe it. I wouldn't worry about it. It will happen when you least expect it. Hope this helps.

Each child is different. It is hard not to compare one of your own to the other, but give her time. Does she or has she spent time in a walker? That can hinder a child from crawling. Play on the floor with her. Just keep placing her on the floor, eventually she will get the urge to investigate her world and get moving.

None of my four kids crawled before 10 months, they all started to walk at 13 months, so they crawled for good 3 months and they were talking really early like at 18 months good clear 2 word sentences. And after that, don't ask me, they are super healthy and very, very good soccer players! SO NO WORRIES! But keep encoraging floor time though!

It is probably worth a call to ECI. She may be just fine or she may need a little help. It is true that some children never crawl but that can cause problems later. With my autistic son we do a program called Little Giant Steps and at 7 he has to go back to crawling exercises to stimulate that part of his brain.

My baby is almost 8 months and isn't technically "crawling" yet but is definitely mobile. He can get on all fours, rock, thrust foward, but hasn't developed the coordination to crawl proficiently. Yesterday he pulled himself up on his knees to hold the top rail of his crib. We suspect he may skip crawling altogether! I would just be on the lookout for overall lack of strength or mobility functions; it may be simply that your baby may is not interested in getting around.

Firstly don't worry and compare siblings or your kids to anyone else. All children develop differently at their own pace and do things when they are ready. Also don't follow everything that the books will tell you or you will worry constantly - books are mere guidelines.

My niece was 5 months when she started crawling and took her first step when she was 10 months while her brother only started crawling at around 10 months. He didn't have a long period of crawling before he started walking bu he also started sitting around 8 months. So all kids are different.

As one mother wrote enjoy the fact that she is not mobile and you don't have to be behind her all the time.

Good luck.

Some babies never crawl. I wouldn't worry, she may just be a content little sweetie pie. My 8 mo is all over the place, sometimes I wish she'd stay where I put her.
