My 10YO son is doing a Hip Hop Performance tonight, just wondering if it's appropriate to give him flowers as little grils receive? Or maybe a gift card instead? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Tbanks so much for all of your suggestions! The performace was awesome last night and he was thrilled to have been part of it. The money lei was a great idea but I didn't have enough time to do it, so he ended up receiving a balloon bouquet with gift cards. Thanks again!

My daughter used to dance also and after awhile I stopped giving her flowers.
1. Because they don't last
2. I rather spend the money on something that will last
3. I found it was really special when I bought her something personal. Pretty hair bands, a bracelet.
Yes those are girlie and that doesn't help but the point is really finding something that they will go "Cool".... Mine are into their ipods right now so I tend to give them ipod gift cards for such events.
Maybe a "bouquet" of rolled up money or t-shirts would be more appropriate, it all depends on his personal style! Good luck!

I have a son and have faced a similar dilemma. In the past, I've gone with balloons or a bottle of sparkling cider instead. Good luck! Have fun tonight.

Flowers are the tradition item given to performers after a performance to show your support. Besides alot of guys like flowers. Have you asked him his favorite kind. He probably wouldn't want a girl to send or you to send flowers to him. Flowers after a performance give to the perform while still of stage and they are taking their bows in front of the audience.

I've seen boys get candy or money leis. It's a great alternative to flowers. It would also show that he received someting for his great performance. Just a thought! Congrats on your talented son!
Flowers...no. Balloons...maybe. Gift Card or special Dinner out with the family....yes. I think he would be totally embarrased by flowers. Tell him to ROCK THE HOUSE!!!!!!

It is very appropriate to give them to young men as well as the young ladies. I've done it many times. They seem to love receiving them.

I like the idea of the balloon bouquet, but let's take it up a notch. He obviously is in to hip hop so why not get him some hip hop gear... let's say a hat he's been wanting or something along those lines to serve as the weight for the balloons. Just a thought.

You want him to feel special - so maybe one rose or something like that - simple but not overly girly. You could also do balloons instead or a candy bouquet. Have fun and hopefully, so will he! God Bless You!

Either is fine, you know what your son likes, sometimes the gift cads or movie passes inside a congratulations card are more appreciated.

I recommend a simple bouquet of flowers, nothing over $10.00. It shows that you wnet out of your way to pick the flowers out and put thought into it. Try to pick her favorite color or the colors of her perforamce outfit.

Hi S., did your Mom used to call you Sa-chan? :0) When my 10 yr old nephew was in a play, all the boys received flowers. They might act "too cool" but he will be happy. We just did yellow and white, not too girly. 3 boys???? My sister has 3 boys too (crazy), I have one girl 10mo old, Emiko. Have fun tonight.

I have a now 8 year old son who in Hip Hop for his 3rd year. He would be crushed if he didn't get something. He has always been pleased with a simple flower arrangement (less pink, more blue). We had a daughter who is always in the same show, so natually she also gets flowers. We try to get them very similar "gifts" for their show.
If he is really "boyish" and would be embarrased by flowers, I would think a gift card or other token would be appropriate.

I like your idea of a card better. My daughter dances too and there's only one boy at our studio. I have no idea what his parents did, but I like the card. I think there are some "congratulations on your acheivement" cards out there that are cute for kids.

S.,
When my, then, 10 year old graduated from elementary school, many of the children - boys and girls - were given flowers and everyone was happy. We chose to give my son a lei - the traditional floral "necklace" of Hawaii(we're not Hawaiian, BTW). He loved it! Infact, not only did he wear it the entire day, he still has it hung on a hook in his room (9 months later).

I think a gift card is a much better idea than flowers.
He is a young man, and would probably much more appreciate a gift card and maybe balloons. No flowers for the little man!

Yes, I manage a wonderful young actor who also sings and dances in his high school performances and I always see all the mothers of these boys as well as myself, bring a few , maybe 4 or 5 flowwers wrapped in ribbons and then attach
an envelope with a gift card for a small and reasonable amount in it as well.
Hope your son """breaks a leg """ :):):).

Ask your 12 and 14 year old. They will have the right instinct from the boy perspective and know what your son will like. Or...how about a cool plant(a cactus in a little pot) that he can keep in his room and won't die!

As the grandmother of a new (2 yrs.) dance teacher, and former dancer, I think perhaps a gift card for your son would be more appropriate for you Hip Hop star. I suspect he probably would appreciate it more then flowers, and he could use it to purchase whatever he wanted. You could enclose it in a "job well done" card.
Hope this helps. dancingramma.

Personally I would give him a gift card if it is presented at the end of his performance. That way he would forgo any kids teasing him for receiving flowers.

A single flower or a bouteniere is OK for a boy, but he'd probably enjoy a gift certificate, a meal at his favorite restaurant, a new hip hop looking hat or shirt, or an addition to a collection of his (my son loves Bionicles.)

If my son were doing a performance such as this I think I would get him a gift card to best buy or something similar to this. That way he can get a hip hop cd to practice or just something fun that he might want. Flowers will just embarass him espically if there are other boys involved that he sees every day.
