Again, I'm trying to plan ahead! Our daughter is due in early December. I have two boys so my house is loaded with Thomas the Train and Superman. I'm at a loss for how to decorate her bedroom without getting too girly. I'm not completly into pink and lace...go figure, I've been surrounded by boys for 5 years. Please give me some paint or wallpaper suggestions, if anyone has a great decorator, or knows of websites I can visit, that would be great. Thanks!
I hated pink but let me tell you it grows on you fast.
My daughter's nursery started out primary colors/curious george themed this was before he was popular again and at about age 2-3 I caved in and everything is girlie girl.
My daughter has a fun room it's bright girlie colors like hot pink/purple/yellow/turquoise lots of butterflys, flowers in more of a modern retro feel. It's not prissy and lacey but still fun,funky and girlie.
For wall colors I'd stick to pretty pastels like yellow, green, beige, periwinkle, lavender etc. You can always accent these colors with hints of pink, or designer wall paper and borders to give the room some flare.
With all of my kids' rooms I stayed away from characters and themes, thinking always of how I'd convert it as the child grows. Think flexibility and functionality. Make sure the furniture is sturdy, timeless, and multifunctional. Right now, consider a crib that convert into a double bed or day bed when she's older.
To give the rooms character, I'd rely on framed art or bedding which can be changed easily if the child gets bored with it.

I like sage green and lavender (not together....) It's not too girly, but still feminine. I found pink stuff didn't bother me as much as I thought it would (I'm not into pink either). My kids, a boy and a girl, are sharing a room right now, and it's green and tan. When her room is done (in Oct.) we are going to paint it a lavender color. Good Luck and congrats!
My sister and her husband went with a classic pooh theme. You can get them with some pink in them but they have enough other colors to not overpower the room in pink.
You could do black, red, and white and do a lady bug theme. It is super cute and not frilly and full of lace. You could also tie in some yellow accents with it to add more color.
I think going with pink and brown is a classy way to go. Female without being too girly. You have to be careful with the type of pink you get though. Check out potterybarnkids.com. Look at all the nursury pictures they have on there. That's where I got the idea of how to paint my little one's nursury, and most cheaper places will have similar bedding sets to PBK at cheaper prices. Happy decorating and baby!!
