alum crystal. Sorry Riley, but aluminum is a metal, and linked to Alzheimer's. Alum is a salt. Works for me!
So, I think my body chemistry is changing. What used to work doesn't seem to work as well anymore and there are so many selections of deodorant.
I also would like something that does not have a lot of alumimum in it BUT I'm afraid in buying the natural deodorants that they won't work as well. What are your thoughts ladies?
I really don't want to "stink" toward the end of the day like I seem to be lately...it's really weird. Does our body chemistry change?
alum crystal. Sorry Riley, but aluminum is a metal, and linked to Alzheimer's. Alum is a salt. Works for me!
I use Dove when I am leaving the house, but I keep a stick of organic deodorant that I use for when I am staying around the house. I think giving my body a break from the chemicals is awesome and it's the right balance for me. Good luck!
I sweat a lot so nothing without aluminum would work for me, until I discovered Lavanila. It's pricey but it works! You can get it at Sephora.
If you DO try natural deodorant to avoid the aluminum, read the backs of the applicators, and avoid the crystal... which is almost pure aluminum salt. Aluminum is also one of the most common naturally occurring elements, so it can be labeled 100% legally as 'natural' even 'organic'. They usually try and 'get away with it' by calling it "mineral salts". Which is also 100% correct. Aluminum is a mineral salt.
Anyhow... I switched to Mitchem gel (mens unscented) after my son was born. Which IS a higher concentration of aluminum than most. But, for me, it works.
I love love love some of the non-aluminum deoderants (and use them occasionally... but most make my skin freak out after a few months-breaking, bleeding.. with following infections )... but if I'm using one... I have to carry it with me in my purse and reapply it every hour or so. Which is why I usually just use Mitchem.
Dove, almost any of them.
Had a roommate that would rotate deoderants every month or so because they stopped working.
I use Melaleuca's deodorant and it works great! I've also used deodorant stones and that works good too but I had to apply it more than once a day. I'm allergic to everything else and the other stuff didn't even work as well as those two things I mentioned. Let me know if you'd like to try the Melaleuca's brand. The deodorant stone can be found at the health food store. Good luck!!
I use Crystal deodorant (http://www.thecrystal.com/). This deodorant does not contain any harmful aluminum. Riley stated that crystal deodorants contain aluminum but this is directly from thecrystal.com:
"Understanding Mineral Salts
Mineral salts are present in the water we drink, in almost all the foods we eat, and in the air we breathe.
In its natural form, alum is the third most abundant element in nature, after oxygen and silicon. It has been part of our environment since the beginning of time and is one of the basic building blocks of our universe.
Deodorants made of alum based mineral salts feature physically large potassium or ammonium alum molecules which are not absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream.
Alum should not be confused with the controversial and potentially harmful aluminums found in most commercial deodorants and antiperspirants, like aluminum chlorohydrate or aluminum zirconium.
The foundation of Crystal deodorants is natural mineral salt harvested directly from the earth called alum."
In the winter, the Crystal deodorant works great. On very hot humid summer days, I found that if I use both the Crystal Essence spray and the Crystal, I don't have any problems (I use the spray first and while still wet, use the crystal).
Body chemistry does change. It changes at puberty, when you're ovulating, when you're menstruating, when you're approaching menopause, even when you're just stressed out.
I have found that Tom's of Maine or Arm & Hammer work best for me.
I used to have that problem..but now have 2 deodorants that I love....Degree and Dove. I keep them both on my dresser, and I put on the one with the scent I feel expresses me that day. Since I switch back and forth so much, I don't have a problem anymore!
I'm in AZ and in the summer months I use the dove clinical strength. Winter, I use regular Dove
I love Tom's of Maine.
BTW -- I hear it's best to apply deodorant at night because it gives your body time to absorb it & for it to become effective before you need it. Might wanna give it a shot...
After you get out of the shower and dry off. Dilute some bleach in a little water. Dampen a paper towel with the bleach solution and wipe it under your arms and let it dry before applying your deodorant. This works like a charm. Depending on how sensitive your skin is or if you just shaved, it could sting a little, so you would have to figure that part out.
The bleach kills the bacteria in the skin under the arm, the stink comes from bacteria. The bleach works wonders so you dont have to change your favorite deodorant.
Maybe you should reapply during the day. When I worked, I kept an extra in my desk just in case!
I use Dove... smells so good. I'm not sure about the aluminum, I didn't even know that was in deodorant (learn something every day :P).
yes it does. I found that I had to change a few years ago, becuase what i was using just stopped half way through the day, and during the summer that is NOT ok!
I now use Degree for Women and love it!
M.
I'm not sure about the aluminum, but I use Dove. I have since they came out with it and I love it. But, I'm not much of a prespirer. Our body chemistries do change though. Just like most have to change shampoos over time, or too much antibiotics and they stop working.
Yah my armpit odor, changed from after I had my first child.
Ick.
I tried those "clinical' strength deodorants. I don't feel it works.
Who knows.
I will look to see what other suggest.
I have also just tried putting baby powder under my armpits, then dusting it off. It seems to work. Or apply it after you put on deodorant.
Dove is about the only one I can use & have no stinky going on or wetness. The worst is Degree,Sure, some Suave scents,Secret. The clinical strength deodorants are a joke for me.
Oh goodness yes! I use to use Secret but it told on me, CertainDri gave me wet stains on my tops, then I tried degree but i guess i'm too hot for it...and a few others but the only one that has been working very well for me is Arm & Hammer Ultra Max Invisible Solid Powder Fresh. I've been using this one for 3 years now and love it. Haven't had an issues any more and I hope it lasts.
I use Dove Powder Invisible Solid anti-perspirant deodorant. I just looked up the ingredients and apparently it has aluminum. I dunno, it works for me! I've used it for a long time.
On occasions when I ran out of my Dove before buying more, or just couldn't find it in the house! lol I've tried using a couple of others I have. One I think is Secret and I want to say the other is Degree, but not sure. Even just one day using those & I can tell a difference. They don't work as well for me!
Perhaps try buying a small travel size of a few different kinds to try them?
I use Mitchum for Women. It works great!
I've been using Lady Speed Stick since I was in my 20's and it's always worked well for me. I have also tried Tom's of Maine & liked it as well.
Once I found Dove I have not used anything else. I am completely happy with it.
Mitchum for women! It's a clear push up gel and the ONLY thing (and I've tried them ALL, natural, crystals, dove, secret clinical, etc...) that keeps my stinky right armpit from smelling in the summertime!
I would never use men's - they all smell HORRIBLE!
i like arrid xx gel. the gel seems to work the best for me!
Around age 40 my body chemistry changed. Dove Clinical strength is the only one that works for me. I used to use regular Dove and it stopped working half way thru the day about 3 years ago.
I like Lady Speedstick, shower fresh scent.
