HI

My name is G. and i have a daughter who is 27 months old.She was diagnoised with neutropenia when she was 7 months old.we did a bone marrow biopsy and couple of other tests and finalied that it is is chronic benign neutropenia and our hammetolgist says tht she will outgrow it in a few yrs.we do a routine blood test every 2 months to check her counts.Till her 2nd bday we didnt expose her outside too much and now from last month we have started her preschool.but she keeps picking up cold and cough so often tht 2 or 3 classes she goes and then i have to retain her back at home coz of cold.I just dunno what to do.Anyone who has info on this kind of neutropenia and any natural ways of improving her immune system??or should i stop her from school?i really dunno wht to do.I dunno when shez going to recover out of this.Im really worried. It would be really great if someone can share some info about this condition.

What can I do next?

Hi G.,

I would suggest baby probiotics, baby calcium, baby minerals supplements from Natren.

Here is their website, thttp://store.natren.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?&Store... will help rebuild her immune system.

www.natren.com

This has been used on new born with problems, and has helped.

Get her off the sugar, dairy, red meat, pork, white flour.
www.creeksideherbhouse.com on the theory page of that site is how the body actually works. When babies have problems it can usually be corrected with nutrition and not chemical drugs.

Hope this helps

Blessings

I asked a friend who works at Texas Parent to Parent and she replied:
is she seeing an immunologist--we see Dr. Villacis with ADC and he is fabulous. There is an immune treatment, IGG, which may or maynot help. If she is looking homeopathic, Central Family Practice, offers a blend of traditional and natural medicine--that may be a very good idea as well.

I hope this is of some help.

Hi G.,

I couldn't resist doing my own research because I had never heard of your ailment. My first approach to health is always the most natural. Here are some informational links I found.

http://prevention.healthline.com/galecontent/neutropenia/3
http://www.neutropenia.ca/index.html
http://www.wellness.com/reference/allergies/neutropenia/p...
http://www.vitaminsdiary.com/disorders/neutropenia.htm

I strongly disagree with any recommendation for anti-biotics due to the stress and potential long term damage to the kidneys, liver, and bone joints.

http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/d/drug_induced_liver_damage...
http://www.caringmedical.com/media_articles/Tendon_Damage...
http://www.nutritional-healing.com.au/content/articles-co...

However, these pages had some great information on how you may of contracted this disease and how to prevent future episodes.

In addition to the prevention measures offered, I would also recommend adding the daily supplementation of high-quality ionic silver and high quality vitamins that include a high level of B-12. And, of course, chiropractic is proven to strengthen the immune system.

You may also consider reducing chemical load on your body by going chemical-free. Chemicals are introduced into the body through several ways: skin, ingestion, and inhalation.

http://thechemicaledge.wordpress.com/2009/02/07/chemical-...

Become a label reader. Burt's Bees website has fantastic chemical information: www.burtsbees.com. Avoid over-the-counter drugs and premade foods.

Become a perimeter grocery shopper. It is expensive to go all organic, and not really necessary. Just ensure that any grown food that has naturally occurring oils (olive, corn, grains, etc) is organic. So with things like lettuce and apples, just wash well before eating.

All the best to you in your journey toward health.

Our family uses Xango juice to support our immune system. It is a super anti-oxident and it tastes great-my grandkids love it. It's completely safe for kids, just a highly nutritous juice loaded with xanthones (a newly discovered phyto-nutrient). We loved it so much, I became a distributer. My website, www.tryxjuice.com, has more info, and you can also request a free sample. Kids typically just need 1-2 ounces a day.

I do not know any information on neutropenia, but my son has a immune deficiency called IGA deficiency. He was sick a lot as a child and we constantly got ear infections and Sinus infections. He got ear tubes at 13 months old but that did not help. From age 1 - 2 we were on atleast 17 rounds of antibiotics (I lost count after 17). As soon as he went off the antibiotics within a 3 - 4 days he would have another infection. At 13 months old he went into anaphylactic shockfrom food allergies. He was finally diagnosed with IGA and we found out that all his allergies and Asthma are symptoms from this condition. My husband and I both work and the doctor told us to get him out of daycare. We found a person to watch him in their home. This person had 2 kids she also watched but that was it. He did much better in this environment and is now 9 years old and in school. He still gets sick some but not as much as when he was yonger. I think part of it is as they get older they are not putting everything in their mouths and sharing germs as much. Good luck I hope things start getting better for you. I know how stressful it is when your child is constantly sick.

I don't know about your daughter's condition, but i do know that it is normal for your daughter to be getting a lot of colds when she first starts daycare. My dr. told me this--it happens either when they start daycare or when they start elementary if that is the first time they are exposed to a lot of children. Mine is always getting sick since she started a large daycare. I guess i'd rather have it happening now than when she is older, but it is frustrating, especially when she gives it to me.

I would look into how your daughter's condition is affected by the colds and make sure there is not any serious consequences. Good luck.

She will build up her immunitity by being around other children. If you wait to put in school she will still get sick because she has not been around other children.

Hi G.,
I'm nor familiar with Neutropenia but the ladies that have replied are right about children getting sick often. I think every child goes thru this. What I do for my kids is
I give them T. different kinds of vitms. During winter I give them vitms with Echinacea and vit C along with a multivitamin daily. During the summer I just give them a multivitamin. I find the vitms at Walmart or HEB grocery stores. I wish you and your little girl the best of luck and hope she makes a full recovery. Please ask her Doctor before giving anything over the counter.

your daughter is gong to catch colds all the time if she is neutropenic--which means in the medical world that her white blood cell count is extremely low--which causes you to get sick because you don't have a lot of immunity. Why are you keeping her home just because she has a cold? Actually with her getting sick, helps her build her immunity..her body will 'remember' which bugs are bad and her white blood cells will elevate to fight off the infection.. just remember to keep a close eye on her and of course if she runs fever take her to the doctor.

Hello. Bless her heart! I don't know anything about neutropenia, but I just googles "neutropenia support group" and quite a few came up, to include a yahoo groups discussion. I'm betting that you'd benefit from looking at those. Hope she makes a full recovery soon...

My daughter also started school at age 2 and better yet in FEB(the worst month for cold cough). She does not have any condition and was sick SO much I paid for 16 days and she went 5. That is how bad it was in the beginning. Now she is in her second year and has only missed twice! Best of luck and it will get better I promise!

I do not know anything about her condition. What I do know is that MOST kids get sick often their first year in childcare/preschool/kindergarten. Whether they are 2, 3, or 5 when they start, they just get sick because they are exposed to new germs. I would keep her in. Once she has gotten through the first year, it will probably be better.
