ETA: My husband is still in RVA, and our neighbor,Miss B (who's scared of her own shadow) literally ran into my hubby's arms as soon as he got home, claiming her whole house moved. My hubs said a few pictures fell off the wall, but other than that, our house is OKAY :)
Still pissed I missed it :(
it was GREAT!!! sorry - I know, twisted - but LOVED IT!!! The epi-center was Richmond, I believe.
According to CNBC it occured in the middle of VA. (Mineral VA) It was either a 5.9 or 6.0. They can't seem to make up their minds.
The FAA closed the WDC airports to air traffic. Two of the NYC airports have been closed and more airports in the area from WDC to NYC to Philadelphia.
It was felt from Detroit to the outer banks of South Carolina to Rhode Island.
The NASDAQ has stopped trading.
Hope you are flying anywhere tonight. I can't imagine all of the flights that will be interrupted because of the East Coast air line interruptions.
Good luck to you and yours.
I felt dizzy for a few minutes but that's my usual state. Maybe it was the earthquake rippling thru Hackettstown? Friend in Boston felt it and another in Albany, NY, too.
Im in Canada and I felt it
I'm in Kansas, so I know I couldn't have felt it in my city, but my power blinked a couple of times; Could that have been a ripple effect? No?
I felt it in Chesapeake, Va.
It was enough to shake my walls and floors - and since I was in my work chair (has wheels) - it was a weird feeling having the house jiggle me in my chair.
We have no damage.
It's unusual for us to get quakes strong enough to feel in this part of the country.
They are now saying it was a 5.9 quake with the epicenter in Mineral, Va which is not far from Richmond.
I texted my husband and he felt it up in Norfolk.
News says we're not expecting any tsunami from this.
I have friends back in the DC area. They all felt it. My facebook friends are saying it registered as a 5.8 and to be cautious for the next hour or so. I thought the DC area got O. a few months ago. I lived there for almost 30 years and there was never an earthquake.
Yes! We felt it here in VA.
My first reaction was "WTH!?" earthquake in Virginia?
My daughter freaked out.
And they say it might be an aftershock...
Obviously I didn't feel an earthquake in Nebraska, but I just wanted to say that I hope everyone is well and not injured... it sounds like it was a pretty significant O.! Best Wishes Mamas!
I need TV! I had no idea there was an earthquake. But no, not in Texas we didn't feel it. 8KidsDad - woah that is huge! I had no idea.
How did I miss it if it was felt in NYC??
I can't say I loved that.
The epicenter was maybe 10 miles from us, near Mineral and Louisa.
Stuff was flying off the wall.
We were able to get as far as the couch and duck and cover before stuff started falling on top of us.
They say it was a 5.8-6.0.
My hubby is in CA, was on the phone with the Pentagon when it hit. He misses everything.
My mom did in Johnstown PA.... she called me immediately!
Near the Delaware Water Gap in New Jersey and I felt it, too.
Denise, I felt it here in my end of the Burgh too!
I am in a small town close to Youngstown and I was out walking and didn't feel a thing. My BIL was 10 minutes away from me and he did.
we felt it here in Chantilly VA. My cell phone is still down. I'm from CA though and earthquakes are no big deal to me. Kind of fun actually, lol. It's weird for me to see people freak out around here over just an earthquake
Yes! I work from home in Venetia, PA and while sitting in my office my chair began to shake and I assumed O. of the dogs was behind me hitting it so I spun around and of course nothing was there. I then realized the knicknacks on top of my desk and bookcase were shaking as well. It lasted about 15 or 20 seconds and I thought I was crazy until I saw the report. Also, my office is located in Alexandria, VA and my coworkers told me it was so bad they were diving under their desks. Several awards and pictures came flying off the walls and they have a good bit of broken glass lying around but everyone was okay, thankfully.
Yes, here on Long Island, we felt it - my son's bed was shaking!
I didn't feel a thing over by the airport, and had no idea until I logged onto FB later that night.
