Did You Re-gift Anything This Year? JFF

Ok, I just gotta confess to someone (other than my hubby, who is my partner-in-crime on this).

This year we are regifting a TON of stuff! I have never regifted without disclosing that fact to the recipient, but this year we had a ton of unexpected year end expenses, but received a ton of wine and chocolate (which neither of us should eat), The result? Tomorrow we will be regifting 5 bottles of wine, several boxes of Godiva, Ghiradelli & Fannie Mae chocolate, some high end olive oil from Bethlehem, and even a $100 gift card to a restaurant that serves stuff that would definitely not fit with our low-carb lifestyle.

At least everything we are regifting is consumable, not something that will just sit around in the person's home for years without being used (like some of the serving pieces I can tell were regifted to us once upon a time.)

WHEW! I feel better now!

Anyone else wanna fess up?

What can I do next?

It sounds like everything you re-gifted is soooooo worth re-gifting. Unfortunately, I would eat the chocolate and drink the wine even though I didn't need to and all of those presents are things I would love receiving, re-gifted or not! NOT necessary to disclose. Good gifts either way. Happy holidays!

I will be regifting something my son got today!! A family member (we see maybe every other year) gave him some little board books in his stocking, that are too young to keep his interest. We found out a woman who doesn't really have family will be joining tomorrow with my husband's family, as a guest/ I decided to give the books to her baby. It's too late to go get anything, and we don't have a use for the books. I have never disclosed when I regifted. If I regift it's only when it's something we truly can't use, and I know the other person would enjoy. I don't feel bad about that!!

I have "regifted" something this year already!! My MIL is notorious for her cheesy, cheap gifts...this year I received 2 holiday finger tip towels and a soap dispenser in the shape of a penquin. I was telling about it at work the next day and one of my co-workers got ALL excited...she collects penquins. So...the next day the little penquin found a brand new home with someone who will cherish her ( him?? ). I suppose it couldnt really be considered re-gifting since I didn't give it as a gift...more as a "here ya go...take this thing off my hands" lol.
Shhhhhh don't tell my MIL...her feelings would be SO hurt!!!!

I am regifting something that was regifted to me.

It is a mug that changes when you add hot liquid to it.

It was given to a friend at a lunch we were both at. When the giver left, my friend said, can anyone use this mug? No one wanted it so I told him, "I know the perfect person for that mug, our daughter!"

She is in college and told me she finally broke every mug she was given when she started college 3 and a half years ago and wants to start collecting funny and strange ones! Last night I told Her I had a "regift" for her, but think she is the perfect person for it.. She said, "I will take it!"

Yeah...
A co-worker gave me a pair of soft fleece pj pants. They were too small for me and I have no idea where she bought them to exchange for my size. So I re-gifted them to my daughter-in-law. They still had the tag on them and she was really pleased to get them.
Nope...didn't tell her they were a re-gift. Why spoil her pleasure in them?

I regifted 2 $25 Starbucks gift cards to two different people. It's not that I couldn't use them - I love Starbucks. I didn't have the spare cash to buy these people gifts, which I normally do. I know they really appreciated them (as did I when I received them!).

I have re-gifted wine since we do not drink wine - for some reason it gives us instant headaches. My husband feels re-gifting is not right, but if it is still brand new and unused and is something you would have bought for the person anyway I don't see why it is looked down upon. It is conserving stuff that would just sit around your house, so in my opinion a very worthy thing to do.

WOW if i got all those gifts i'd be tempted to regift as well! lol.

our christmases are smaller-scale.

BUT i did have to "ungift" lol. my MIL sent a box of gifts for my son - none of which were wrapped (?). i guess she assumed i would wrap them for her? my husband did mention when she said it was on its way, that one was impossible to wrap so maybe we could use it as a santa gift (we don't wrap santa gifts) and that one was a "lil helper" tool set. not sure why it couldn't have been put in a gift box or bag. but all these metal tools were literally flying around loose inside the box she sent. the rest i guess she just didn't feel like wrapping.

so when my son's gift exchange day came around last week and i COMPLETELY FORGOT - i admit - i grabbed one of her gifts and threw it in a gift bag :( it was a small gift, a Cars bath set. his limit for school was $5. and i know that my son doesn't like Cars stuff. not sure why but there you go. that's my confession. it all worked out. and no one was the wiser.

and for the record, i didn't wrap ANY of her gifts - they all got added to the Santa pile. and then my husband was grouchy because he felt his parents wouldn't get the "credit" for sending the gifts because my son thought the were from santa. sorry......i guess i could have wrapped them but.....lol. i didn't! oh well....my son really loved the jersey they sent - the one she put in a gift box. i know this isn't on topic but i just thought the whole thing was wierd/funny lol. ah well...merry christmas!

I gave away a very pretty boxed set of soap and lotion that I would never use. A friend had brought it to me when she visited a few weeks ago and I stuck it in a gift bag and used it for the gift exchange for a weekly group Im in. I saw the gals face when she opened it and she was thrilled. She even opend the box, and used some of the lotion right there,, so I know it was a hit.

Your friends are lucky to have you!! Regifting has gotten a bad rap because of people who pass on garbage that is too ugly or useless to keep. But you are doing it the right way...and ettiquite experts agree! I am not regifting this year per se, but I did pass on a pair of pajamas I bought my son 2 years ago that he never wore. It had the tags on so they really were brand new. I would take a regift from you anytime. My SIL gave me the same Yankee Candle last year that I had given her the year before. How rude!

sounds like you are a nice re-gifter... in my case, I usually disclose that it's re-gifted and I tend to give away something useful.. Whereas, I , myself have received USED (somewhat broken?) picture frames . with that person, for whom I would spend upwards of 100 dollars.. after the pic frames.. I said let's not do gifts and keep it to the kids.. problem solved.. :) I don't mind used gifts.. but broken.. c'mon.... anyway, many people re-gift.. in my opinion, it's ok.. although I think it should be something useful..

I tend to re-gift wine also...we are always being given bottles of wine and hubby does not drink wine, and I drink it very seldom, so I figure maybe someone else will appreciate it more. But then again, maybe I am only assuming that and maybe they are re-gifting too!

My kids received 3 gifts today that will go into the re-gift bag.

Many of the gifts they receive are also donated to Toys for Tots rather than re-gifting them. My 6 year old has a ton of Bday presents that she never bothered with after unwrapping them....I think it is time for us to do present-less Bdays!!!

Heck, if it's a quality gift that I know I won't or can't use, there's no reason to keep it. It's the trashy re-gifting that has given it a bad name :)

My 5 year old got a pinball game that my hubby got in a white elephant work gifting thing. He LOVES it :)

Saw the Yankee Candles today at our Christmas party that I gave my neice last year...she re-gifted them to my sister...which will in turn give them to her son...because she says she has tons of candles already. So....a word to the wise...NO MORE CANDLES AND NO STARBUCKS GIFT CARDS>>>>>>everybody hates them!!!
