Hi all, I'm a SAHM of 3 kids. My oldest is 8 1/2 yrs old now and I was wondering if anyone had/have discoloration problems regarding their armpits. Mine have been very dark since i was pregnant with her. Does anyone have any home remedies that I can try to lighten them up.

Hi M.,

I am a mother of two boys who are 22 months and 3 months. My underarms did not darken with my first son but they did with my second. They got lighter gradually and are now back to normal. I would say it took about two months for them to return to its normal color. How old is your youngest child? Did you just have a baby and your underarms have darken since or have your underarms been dark since your oldest child who is now 8? If you have just had a baby then I would not worry. They will eventually lighten. Good luck!

it is related to your hormones. thats why many women have these skin changes during pregnancy. ask your doctor if there are any hormonal changes you should be concerned about. I used to experience this and after my hormones from pregnancy and breastfeeding kinda leveled out I used tea tree oil. it can burn a bit. DON'T use if you just shaved, it will burn like the dickens! Rub a little on and let it sit for a minute, then use a wet warm washcloth to rub and clean off the oil. it takes a few times but helps. check your hormones first! good luck.

Same thing happened to me; it eventually went away after maybe 1.5-2 years after giving birth.

Mine did that with pregnancy, and stuck...but it's really only noticeable to ME. We don't have the spare cash for bleaching...but a dermatologist can bleach the discoloration away.

I too had the dark pits with my 3 pregnancies and who knows how long after (you actually forget about them after a while and then when you remember, you realize they are gone!). I don't think there is a simple remedy to apply, I believe what works is just being as healthy as you can be and your body will change itself back.

Definitely drink a lot of water all day long, take vitamins and eat good foods. Another thing: wear sunscreen, especially on the discolored areas that the sun may shine on (front and back creases of armpits, etc.) because the sun works your skin pigments against the lightening process your body will be trying to do.

Personally I cannot say my armpits will ever be the same as before kids, but they look pretty good compared to other body parts that have permanently changed.

You can always go high tech and go buy new ones...(don't we wish~~smile~~)
