Disney Last Week in May? How Crowded?

Does anyone KNOW if they have a full staff then? We go to bed early so I don't care about closing times. I am trying to talk my husband into missing the last week of school to beat the crowds. He is in a big wheelchair and can not breathe if perfume or smoking is around. This is our one chance at a big vacation due to finances and his illness progressing. We would stay on site for 4 or 7 days.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

He insists we not miss school. I am glad some of you told me the last week in May and 1st week in June are busy. I thought we were beating the crowd. The choices are overwhelming. He could not do 100+ degrees all day. We are not even sure dd would enjoy much at Disney. I have a call into the specialist. We might do Gatlinburg and Myrtle Beach instead.

which Disney in California or Florida.. we just got back from California and stayed at the Grand California hotel and it had options to enter the park early before the general public and its own entrance.. So the morning was so much fun before the park opened to the general public.. have fun :)

I'm guessing you're talking about Disney World, because most people don't stay at Disneyland for a full week. Have you been before? What time of year? How crowded it seems will depend on how crowded it was when you went before. Evenif you don't care about closing times, you can look at Disney's posted closing times to get a good idea of how crowded they expect the parks to be; the longer they're open, the bigger the expected crowds (and the more staff they'll have on hand). The last week in May is less crowded than the first week of June, and a LOT less crowded than the middle of June, but it's a lot more crowded than, say, January or September.

It also might help to consult messagplanning sites (like allears.net), message boards (disboards.com) or a virtual concierge company (like tourguidemike.com or touringplans.com - both are excellent) to help you determine which parks are most crowded on which days. For instance, I know the annual Star Wars Weekends will be going on in May at Hollywood Studios, so you'll want to go there on a weekday for sure, unless it's important to you to see the Star Wars characters.

The cast members are pretty good about confining smokers to certain areas in each park (I've run across people who are smoking in the wrong areas, but not often, and we go a lot). As for the perfume, there's just no way to forecast or prevent that, unfortunately.

Definitely request the Guide for Guests with Disabilities, as someone else suggested. It should give you lots of tips. There are certain rides whose queues will allow you to skip ahead of the line, but many of Disney's ride queues have been redesigned so that wheelchair guests wait with everyone else (this was done to prevent people from renting wheelchairs for the day just to skip to the front of each line). If your husband's intolerance to smoking or perfume is something that his doctor would be willing to document as a reason he should be given special access, you can bring that with you and turn it in at guest services for a special pass. They're not easy to get, but usually with medical documentation it's not a problem.

Good luck, and have a great time! Disney World is my very favorite place to be!

So very excited for your family! First of all I would contact Disney prior to going due to your husband being in a wheelchair. My neighbors daughter works at DisneyWorld working with Family in your exact situation. Last year we went the first week in June and could barely stand the heat. It was sooooo very warm. The temps were in the upper 90's and one day it was 116. It was not pleasant standing in line.

Wishing you all the best!

Crowds that time aren't bad at all. We went there twice that time of year, many years apart at that...and the most we waited either time were 20-30 min. for anything.

We went the last week in May a few years ago. It was perfect! Walked right onto the rides with no wait time. Funny because everyone told me not to go that week because it's gay days. DW has a parade down Main Street to celebrate gay days. I did not mind the people celebrating but was worried about the extra crowds. I got onto the gay days website (googled it) and found exactly what park they would be at each day and we just went do a different park. We never saw anything uncomfortable and again had no crowds. I also googled DW crowds and found a website that told me what days each park had the highest capacity. We made sure to not hit those parks on those days either. Scheduling was a bit tricky but well worth the time I put into it. My thoughts for last week in May was that most school districts are still in session. Totally recommend the last week in May and yes it was fully staffed! Disboards can answer your questions.

Definitely go before school is out!!!! And try to go mid-week instead of the weekend. (I'm talking Disneyland - I haven't been to DWorld).

It is such a pleasure to roam around the park early in the AM - and if you're really lucky, it'll rain! That always knocks down the crowds (discourages smokers, too!)

Well, the last weekend in May is Memorial Day weekend, so maybe try to go before then. But, whether you go before or after, it will be crowded. It usually doesn't slow down after spring break. I believe there is special access for the disabled to the rides etc..so you wouldn't have to sit in huge lines, so even if it's busy, you'll get through quicker. I would call Disney Guest Services, and ask about disability preferences, and have them mail you the "Guide for Guests with Disabilities". it has all the info in it. Plan on having loads of fun! How exciting!!

If you are talking about Disneyland in CA, it's a smoke free environment I believe... maybe some designated smoking areas only... I havent been there in a zillion years. Perfume? Can't help ya there. Definitely go on a week day tho and not a wknd. It's always crowded no matter what, but I believe there is special treatment for people that need accessability like your hubby. From what I've heard the very best day to go to Disnelyand is Super Bowl Sunday, thats the least crowded day other than a rainy day.
