My spouse and I have been together going on 10 years have been married 8. I believe that somethings just never change about certain people and the time have come for us to go our separate ways. Can anyone tell me a inexpensive divorce attorney or maybe if anyone knows how the do it yourself filing work? Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many blessings to you all!

Dissolution, not divorce....It will have you tons of money if both parties are agreeing on the "stuff".

Are you sure you are ready to divorce? have you weighed all options? Did you seek counseling? This is a mom's site, and we help each other and I know there are other places you can look for an attorney.

I would check the court's website for the county you live in. Often, they have all the paperwork you need (downloadable) to file a divorce - especially if it is uncontested. You will still have to pay the filing fees, however.

I strongly suggest that you do use the services of an attorney to file for divorce. There are certain things in life that cost more to fix later. Divorce is one of them. Just for fun, you should call around to attorneys to ask what their initial retainer is to get involved in a botched divorce where no one used an attorney. The fees will be at least 5 times what it will cost to do it right the first time.

Also, consider not hiring a) the cheapest lawyer you can find; and b) a paralegal service to do the paperwork for you. You get what you pay for and all the paralegal service will do is fill out the papers for you - you can do that yourself for free.

Good luck.

My sister had an uncontested divorce and paid around $500 BUT that was because they agreed to the terms before she went to the lawyer. Her divorce papers are 3 pages long and were signed and complete within 11 days. So, if you guys are able to settle on an agreement before hand and make a list of whats yours and whats his and then take it to the lawyer to just draw up that should make it cheaper and less stressful (if that's possible) on both of you.

There should be a state web site to get all the info and download the paper work you need (I was able to get it all online and fill it out here at home in Alaska). Once it is filled out and signed you both take it to the court house and pay the filing fee, than it takes some time while a judge reviews it and finalizes the dissolution.

I have had friends that have done the divorce on line. I am not sure of the web address but I also know that there are low cost advocates that can help you with all the filing. I commend you if this is the way you want to go!

If its mutual dissolution of marriage. Our county's court (in california) even had free workshops to help you fill out the paperwork. Good Luck.
