Do You Have Cellulite? (A Just for Fun, Feel Good Question)

Okay, truth: I went to my midwifery appointment today and was weighed. I've gained more weight than I would have like and it bothers me. Am I in a healthy range? Sure. Are my midwives worried? Nope. Does it still bother me? Yup, and why? Because of body image issues that I'm fairly sure are not uniquely my own.
((In other news, baby is healthy, I'm half way through, and she's a GIRL!!!))

I took a relaxing stroll through facebook tonight and this article came up on my feed. It's called, "Cellulite: It's Time We All Just Got Over It". I read it and it was perfectly timed. And it made me feel quite a lot better. I was like, to hell with you body image issue.

So I thought I'd pass it on to you all, just because it's a feel-good-kinda-thing and it's filled with fun medical facts.
Hope this finds you well.

Oh, and to answer my own question: Yup, I have cellulite.

What can I do next?

Yay, a lovely little girl!! Congrats :)

Do I have cellulite? I don't know. I don't have it on the front. I don't look at the back. (Is that normal?) I don't weigh much and am thin, but is it really possible for a non Hollywood woman to NOT have cellulite? I'm going to guess, that I absolutely do. Maybe, a lot. I just don't really care to look, ignorance is bliss!!

IT IS THE YEAR OF THE GIRLS!!!! EVERYONE I KNOW THAT HAS HAD A BABY SINCE SEPTEMBER 2012 HAS HAD A GIRL. MY SISTER IS PREGGO AND DUE IN AUGUST..............WE ARE PULLING FOR A GIRL, IN OUR FAMILY FULL OF BOYS!!!......Done yelling:) Congrats on the new baby girl, coming soon!!!

So with my first I went from being six feet tall 115 lbs........to gaining 75 lbs. and being the biggest I have ever been.

I did not lose any of the weight after I had him really.

When I got pregnant with my second, I was super super sick in the beginning. No actual throwing up or anything. Just did not eat ever. So I ended up losing weight at first. total gained through the whole thing only 15 lbs. Much more normal.

With my third and last, I lost weight in the beginning again. Never really gaining too much of it back. With him I actually looked really good. I was one of those women that looked like she was all belly. And stuck as if I had two basketballs in my uterus. Since I lost weight, I had the skin and bones look with the belly(I thought it looked ok better then swollen ankles and bloated gut. My belly got so big that my belly ring started forcing itself through the skin. It hurt finally, so instead of having a belly button piercing that ripped through, I just let it heal and I now still poke a piece of jewelry through it in an effort to maybe one day try to keep something in it.

As for Cellulite..........So going from 115 lbs to almost 200 lbs I exploded off the cellulite chart. Along with it, I had been given awesome stretch marks on my back, stomach, boobs, thighs, inside of thighs, back of thighs and the most annoying and shocking location....the back of my knees.

Two more children did not help it go away at all.

When I started getting sick with my eating disorder, I slowly started to notice my stretch marks go down and the cellulite totally disappear. I thought I was in a dream for the longest time. I was thrilled to be tinier then I had been when I got married even. Almost 20 lbs lighter actually.

I am not back up to about 156 lbs. I freak the freak out of myself when I am changing. I refuse to get totally undressed when we are getting busy. I know I am on the bigger side of things for my liking,

With the weight gain coming on sometimes very quickly, cellulite and stretch marks pretty much will follow.

I will always be a recovering Anorexic, much like someone who is an Alcoholic. Except for me, I actually LOVE the feeling of slowly starving to death. It is the best way to feel the pain, punishment and every thing that comes along.

So to keep from rambling on...Do I have cellulite? Yes.

I am so thrilled for you my sweet friend!!!!!! You are such an amazing and beautiful mom to your two girls, you have now. This new addition will find her place perfectly.

I hope all is well, outside of body image and cellulite!!!!!

Let me check.... No I do not have cellulite. I am 56 years old, everything is blurry without my glasses, which I can't find because I can't remember where I left them and anyways, I can no longer bend that far to view the back of my thighs.

Lol... Ephie, darlin (btw did you know iPhones autocorrect Ephie to Rogue??? How cool is that???)

This is how my life goes:

- I need to lose 70lbs (only 2 sizes, so not a crazy amount, but still 6+ months of dedication to sloooooow "healthy" loss instead if 6 weeks of instant UNhealthy loss)
- Staring forlornly into the mirror in a fit of self ickiness... I notice my derrière is actually kinda Rockin. Sweet! Oh yeah! I'm not completely hideous! Okay! My tush is pretty. Go self!
- The SAME WEEK I go "stair luging" (stepping on slippery mossy steps in the rain ... BAM! Thump thump thump thump thump...groan in a puddle.)
- I creased the back of my lap!
- Aaaaaaieeeeee. The one pretty part left of me has a big dent in it!!! I don't need TWO cracks in my.... Aieee. Its. No. Fair!

(Okay, at first the bruise was pretty awesome... All black & red & stretching from horizon to horizon... But when the bruise went, the dent replaced it. Wheeee necrosis!)

So.

No divets.

But a lane.

God likes to snicker up his sleeve at me.

Aww, Ephie, Congrats!

and a wee bit jealous you have a girl, because I have all these ideas for things to sew and I have a boy who just wants tee shirts and fleece pants!
(I dream of pinafores. Can't help myself!)

Yep, cellulite. Life's abundance has blessed me, I suppose. I'll take it over the parts of my life when I was skinny due to anxiety.(Eschewing the cause-- hey, skinny was fine, stressed out wasn't.) Maybe they call it 'fat and happy' for a reason? I know, oversimplified, but what the hey.... :)

Now to read the article! First: I find the photo of Scarlett to be very attractive, while the caption-- that poster seems abnormally socially stunted. Guessing he's never seen a naked girl in his bedroom? Second: do you remember the episode of Ally McBeal where Jon Bon Jovi (who plays an artist) paints her portrait and includes her cellulite-- and of course, she's emotionally devastated about it? Glad that there are articles like this, too bad we likely won't find it in TeenCosmo or 17 or one of the other magazines young girls like.

BeenThere's "cellulighten up".... great pun! Made me laugh!

Ephie, you are too funny.

I may have some cellulite, but at 50, thank goodness my eyesight is so bad I wouldn't really know. What I can't see can't bother me.

:)

Congratulations on the news you're having a girl.
How exciting for you!!

Keep us posted!

Love and best wishes!

This is so funny!!! I have it !

I was obese as a kid. When I lost the weight, I looked great except for the ripples on the back of my legs ! So, I have it for yrs and yrs !

I wear long shorts, mens swim trunks and JUST HOPE that it doesn't spread.

My dermatologist said it will always be there !

Congrats on your news !!!! The BABY news --- not the ripples !

I asked a question about peri-menopause yesterday...That's when the body goes south !

I used to put the baby in the stroller and walk for miles, avoid sugar and junk and do some easy squats. It still never went away.

I just hide it !

A comment about all the girls being born. My daughter is pregnant with a girl, due June 21, her already born son's birthday. Dad and brother really wanted a boy since there is already Mom and 2 girls. They've stopped complaining. lol

I'm glad this article popped up just when you needed it. You're awesome and deserve the best.

As to cellulite. I have none tho I'm a bit over weight. My mom and aunts and grandmother never had cellulite. I think it's the genes that cause it. Something over which we have no control. Stretch marks I have and I've never been pregnant.

Which reminds me of a story. My college roommate had an irksome brother. When she'd had enough she told him, "zap, your genes are altered" meaning he'd turn into a girl. He went around telling people his jeans were all dirty. Didn't think that was bad at all.

Congratulations on having a girl!

As for cellulite, no, I don't have any. What I do have is loose skin. I've always been very thin (struggled with anorexia/bulimia much of my life and still have image issues) except when I was pregnant. I was very large when I was pregnant, but I was all belly. Now I have loose skin around my stomach that I have learned to live with even though my youngest child will be 9 in two weeks. No amount of exercise will make it go away, and I'm underweight (so the doctor says; I disagree).

We all have our issues. I'm loving those of you that say to hell with it! :)

Yes, I do. I've had it since as long as I can remember. I have stretch marks too, had those for as long as I can remember as well. Do I hate both, yes, I do.

I'm fair skinned, healthy, and have taken on all the hereditary woes my mother had to pass down, and I'm proud of the way I look! So is my husband :)
