Do You Listen to Your Dreams??

I had a disturbing dream last night.... We were standing either on a dock or a pool ledge and my 7 month fell into the water. The water was very merky and dirty looking and I couldn't see her. Of course I jumped in frantically trying to find her and I was unable to. My dream then jumps over to her floating dead in the water and I woke up panic and heart racing.

We are scheduled to go on vacation next week to the ocean and had plans to stay at a hotel with a pool. Is this just me dreaming of water b/c that is what we are doing next week? We also just purchased a cabin with a river front and we have a dock there too. I have had these types of dreams before about other family members and many have come true.

I have been worrying about this all day. I told my husband about it this a.m. and it shook him up to.

What can I do next?

If I listened to my dreams I would be using a shoe box as a car, and starring in an x-rated episode of "I Love Lucy"' wearing kabuki makeup.

I am with Jen - if I listened to my dreams, my DH would have cheated on me with TONS of woman.

Uh, in HIS dreams!!!! =)

I have these types of dreams ALL the time. I hate them. They ruin my day. I cannot shake the bad feelings. But, in the end, it is always OK. Always. If you feel nervous even after a good night's sleep tonight, take some more precautionary measures with regard to your DD and water. Talk to her about safety in and near the water (again, assuming you already have).

It could be something as simple as for a split second after purchasing this cabin, you thought about the safety of the kids. It is NORMAL for us to worry about our kids and those thoughts sometimes manifest themselves in nightmares. You cannot let that fear control you.

I wish you the best.

ETA: Sorry, just reread your post - you can't really "talk" to a 7 month old about water safety. Lol. I read your post quickly and thought it said 7 YEAR old. Just take extra precautions - you are right to be worried. But YOU control what happens NOT your dreams.

One time I had a dream that my grandma died. I called her the next day and she said I'm glad you had that dream, you just added a year to my life... I felt better afterward...

I think going on vacation has a lot to do with what you are dreaming... I wouldn't say I believe everything I dream, but a lot of time when I have a weird/scary dream I go to this sight online and see what it says... A lot of times it makes me feel better but realize what's going on in my conscious state...

Try to relax, everything will be fine...

Don't let your dreams stop you from living. I dreamt that my infant was kidnapped from a grocery store as a newborn. It did not come true. As a parent you will worry about things constantly. It could be overwhelming if you listened to your gut. If you let your fears immobilize you, you will not be able to be happy.

Your dream wasn't, I don't believe, a prophetic dream. I think it's a manifestation of your current stresses. Perhaps you're having some buyer's remorse over purchasing a cabin and an extra mortgage for it.

First off, your 7 month old isn't about to wander off alone and fall into the water. You're not likely to allow her to be in a position where she falls into a pool or off of a dock. You'll likely have an infant water vest on her when you all are near water. And now is a good time to get her into swimming lessons. Even if you can't, you'll be diligent.

We all worry about losing our children to things that we can't control. I had the worst nightmare ever that my eldest daughter was kidnapped and the police couldn't find her. I had another nightmare that my car ran off the road in an ice storm and fell into the river that we live near with myself and my kids all in the car. I've dreamed that my husband cheated on me and divorced me because his mother told him to. I dreamed that one of my daughters would be born with cystic fibrosis and cleft palate.

We're all still here and I'm still married. And my MIL loves me. None of my children have CF or CP. Although admittedly I made my OB run the tests to make sure that they didn't have CF since that wasn't in the typical round of testing. ;-)

I've also had dreams that come true about other people, but I've found that when it comes to my children those types of dreams are a bit more cloudy because I'm "too close" for them to be accurate. So I take them to mean "you're highly stressed, you're worried, take a look at what's going on right now and be cautious for a while but don't over-react."

Many times water represents you giving birth to your daughter. We tend to dream about water with our kids. You might be fearful but I don't think it's a sign that you need to not go on vacation around water. I hate dreams like that. I have a lot of dreams about water and my kids. Good luck!!

I would just be extra careful with your LO. Maybe teach her to swim as soon as possible to help ease your fears. You could also keep her in a life jacket when she is going to be any where near water to help ease your pain. Things happen in a split second so if you are prepared already the outcome prolly won't be bad like it was in your dream.

dreams never are that literal. remember? people dream of fish when someones pregnant. so, this probably is just your mind working out some other thing. I looked at an online dream dictionary. it says that dreaming someone else downs means you are feeling overwhelmed and helpless, that a particular situation is out of your control.

omg christina - youve got issues girl! and im laughing so hard people are staring at me

i try to always listen. the times i haven't, i have regretted it.
as for you, don't cancel the trip, just be extra cautious. your 7 month old will soon be 3 and 4. do swim lessons early on so you can enjoy your cabin. to me dreams are precautions. i may have not been extra prepared for something. look at it that way. ok?

I don't do any kind of fortune-telling from dreams... but occasionally I do have really scary ones.

My latest ones have concerned being in a car and going too fast.

I DON'T believe it is an omen of anything - but, in its favor, it definitely reminds me to keep my mind on my driving when I'm behind the wheel. That's something for all of us to remember all the time.

Usually, if I'm having nightmares, I can connect them directly to being stressed out about something or overtired.

I think you are just worried, your dream reflected this. Try and stay calm and keep your little one near you. Can she walk/ crawl yet? As I recall, 7 month is only just starting to stand, so I don't think she can walk out of the cabin or the hotel and get hurt. Let me know if I'm wrong.

A few years back we vacationed on the Gulf and stayed at a condo that had a pool. I had a brief panic and wanted to buy water wings and vests, but chose to trust the fact that my daughter would never leave my sight any time we were near the water. I watched her like a hawk, never admired the scenery unless I could pass off the watching to my husband. If we used the pool she was in my arms one way or another, we held hands when we walked to it and if we ever got out. My daughter was older ( 3 year at the time) and could leave the condo of her own will, but all the while before the vacation I had raised her to never leave the house without permission. She was never allowed to touch "outside" doors at home so she knew not to touch the ones at the condo. When yours is older look into swimming lessons as soon as possible (since you have the cabin and...things happen) and teach her not to ever go outside without you. I think that should help.

I do listen to my dreams, but only if I get a feeling in my gut that it's something I should act on. If not, it's just a dream or your brain clearing out some files. Perhaps the mess with Casey Anthony's case leaked in? (I avoid that like the plague, but still have accidentally heard enough to know the defense is that the daughter drowned....perhaps you heard it in passing?) In the meantime, I would pray over my child, pray for the ability to be sensitive to whatever action needs to be taken, put him/her in lessons, and then be as on point and cautious about water safety as you should be, no matter if you're having a dream or not. We play in water all the time. But we have to take precautions because water can be SO much fun but it can also be very dangerous. Sorry you had such a bad dream though. That kind of thing can ruin my whole day if it starts off like that!

I believe dreams are a way back to something you miss. I wish I could have some people erased from my subconscious. Like my ex. I always get very confused and messed up the next day, if I had one about him. They always went the same way...I was trying to get back together with him..but hurt that my husband had to go through so much pain...They annoy me.

I always hate when I have a Deja Vue moment...because it is normally something that is happening that was similar to a dream sequence I had had.

I try not to read too much into them...But I do hate the ones that shake you.

We just watched Inception last night..The kids were gone!! Anyways..it is about dreams and what not...Freaked me out. I was not able to finish it...was good..just to realistic.

Dreams can help you prepare for your future....and they are also your subconscious fears poking their heads...

you have stuff coming up around water....your daughter is your baby....so you are mixing your fears, etc..

When you go on vacation, ensure your daughter has a life vest that fits her and it's on her....be vigilant but not so that you can't enjoy yourself. She will pick up on your stress and it will suck...

Pray about it...if it keeps haunting you - change plans...
