My FIL gave me $500 for my bday (YES!!!) and I'm really wanting to put it towards an Ipad2. I've been wanting it for a really long time but I'm just curious if you found that it was worth the high price. Do you have an Ipad 2? What do you use it for? Is it worth $500???

What can I do next?

I use it for everything and so does the entire family. I only use my laptop to print things. I LOVE It, and highly recommend getting one!!!

I bought my daughter the iPad 2 for her 18th birthday last month. Unfortunately it was about $800 by the time we got out of there and then more charges for the apps and stuff. She LOVES it though, so much more than her laptop. She finds new uses for it every day.

My husband just got me one for my birthday! (I know I got spoiled this year!) Anyway, so far I just love it! The main thing I love about it, is all the applications that are out there for it, and you can get quite a bit free. I mean you can anything...really. I have an application that takes pictures and reverts them to no color, then you add color in the places you want. I found a scrapbooking application, I have tons of fun little games, ABC has a great application that allows you to watch their shows in HD. I can facebook easily from the ipad. I can get on mamapedia. Really its great for all internet searching. And then there is Itunes, where you can get movies, tv shows and music at a relatively low cost. I even downloaded some first episodes of tv shows for free. Oh and one other thing I love is the ability to read books on it, you can even download free books! I had a netbook before this and I haven't even thought about it.

Oh and my kids ask me ALL the time to play on my Ipad. :)

I love my iPad2! I'm using it right now!

The only thing I would remind you of is it isn't anything right out of the box. You have to buy everything that goes on it. Granted, the programs are much cheaper than a computer!

I bought the iPad 2, then I got a keyboard because the keyboard on the screen is very hard to type with. I love my keyboard, it's the Zagg one and it doubles as a case. Then the case got scratched so I bought a cover. I also had to buy apps, I spent quite a bit getting different apps. I already have an iPhone so I was able to use some apps that I already bought. The iPad2 apps have to be the HD version in order to be full-screen.

I take my iPad everywhere! I use it for surfing the internet at home. I play games, type up papers, watch movies, listen to music. It's wonderful!

Another downfall is you can't print from it without a special printer and special software. It won't work with my printer yet...I'm hoping they'll come up with software for it soon so that it will.

I'm happy with mine, but remember there are lots of extras you need before you can really use it!

Hi! I have an ipad and it is lots of fun. Between my husband and I and my two kids, someone is constantly using it. We got ours last year and at the time we thought it was the greatest thing in the world. However now that there are SO many other tablets available, I would definitely NOT recommend the ipad. It drives me absolutely crazy when I cannot view certain websites because the ipad is not Flash enabled!!

I have an iPad 2 (Mother's Day gift!) and I use it constantly. In fact I have it here right now at my desk at work playing music. I have the Wifi only iPad because we already pay for two unlimited data plans and while it is a little limiting, I kind of appreciate that limits how much I can use it outside of the home. It's a really great convenience, I use it for recipes for cooking, quick web surfing, I can keep up with social networks like FB and Twitter easily and watch television shows on it with Netflix/HBO Go. And my best friend got me addicted to a couple of games. It's really really great.

The only downside for me is that it takes really poor photos and video is only slightly better.

I am writing this on my iPad (1). It serves as a laptop for me, take it around the house to read online, check email, play games, watch shows. I love it, and my kids do too. I didn't get a 3G one, so it is limited -- I brought it for my son to play on during my daughter's piano lesson, but he couldn't do much without an Internet connection.

Yes, I love it. The cheapest one, which I have, only runs on wifi. So far it hasn't been a big deal.
I don't have a laptop, so I use mine to read online mags, FB, check email, surf the web, etc while watching TV.
I am self-employed, so with the addition of LogMeIn software, I am able to remotely (while on vacation, etc) log into my main computer at the house and work on any file. This is a plus for me.
Depending on what you want to do with it, you will need apps. I would say that 90% of my apps were free apps. But I have paid for some of them - usually ranging from 99¢ to $2.99. LogMeIn ($30) and Numbers ($10) were the only ones that cost more than that, but still a lot cheaper than full software packages for my computer.
I can't print, although certain configurations can print. Keep that in mind. I just use my computer.
My kids also play games on it all the time.
Some of my favorite apps: GoodReader, DropBox, LogMeIn, TheDaily, PocketMoney, Spark Recipes, Pandora, Genius Scan, Key Ring, Flashlight, Numbers, Bamboo Paper.
It's cheaper and smaller than a laptop, and does almost everything too!
