Do You Take 'Angry' Pics of Your Kids?

I, like most first-time mothers, have hundreds of pics of my 10 month old. Most of them are cute little candids, but I have a few of her crying (sad or angry) because she has this really cute 'pity face'. lol. (of course, I usually comfort her if she's sad, and if she's throwing a tantrum I will let it run it's course... I just snap a quick picture. lol) I post a lot of my pics on facebook (with maximum privacy settings... my family all live on the other side of the country so these pics are the only way they get to see her...) Most of the time I get 'Awww, poor lil girl.' comments made in good humor... but some people kind of have a 'seriously!?!' attitude about it. I made one of them my profile pic because it was just so darn cute (and she looks so pissed off) and got a couple comments of 'why would you post this?' I just brush them off, because I think they are cute... But it got me wondering if other mothers do the same thing...? :)

Hee hee hee. Thanks mommas for validating me! I think my DD is absolutely beautiful, no matter what mood she is in, so I like the pics. It's good to know I'm not the only one. :)

If it makes you feel any better I took a video of my kids in a huge fight and then in time out apologizing to each other, albeit not very nicely. I sent it to my hubby who was deployed and a whole Navy ship full of dads who were missing their kids got to watch them.
THey loved it.

I have tons of pics, happy and not so. I love them all.
Keep posting.

I grab up all the moments on the camera! Gotta have blackmail material for when they're older! My parents have one of my sister when she was around 5 rolling around in the barn pounding her fists on the floor...why would you miss those opportunities? :-D

Yep - I have a few of my kids making pouty faces and a few of them being downright pissed! They are so cute and they make me laugh years later. Anger is an emotion just like all the others - feel free to post pics as you wish and ignore the comments. Or respond "Why would YOU post/say that?!"

I actually had portraits taken of my kids at a nice photography place (think it was Flash). My daughter , who I think was 2 at the time, got really upset. She ended up giving the camera a look that shot daggers!! Her head was tipped down and her stare was SOOOOO mad! LOL! I absolutely LOVE that picture! I had it blown up to an 8x11 and framed it in black and white! I just took it down a couple months ago, when we painted and haven't gotten all of the pictures back up, yet. Everyone at the photographers thought it was priceless! My daughter is 9, now and we all laugh at that picture. I think it's perfectly ok to take mad pictures! I want to remember those moments - after enough time has passed and I'm not just as p-off!! ha ha !! Hey, life with kids isn't always puppy dogs and rainbows! I like to doucment it all - the good, the bad and the ugly. :)

Yes! It is funny to look back on them and laugh with the child when they're a bit older. I'm keeping pics of my nephew and all of his grouchy faces. (He hates to take pics, so he always looks mad) They are hysterical, especially when all the other kids in the pic are smiling. I'll give them to him in a scrapbook when he's much older and can laugh about it. People take things WAY too seriously sometimes! Have fun with your kids!

I don't have FB, but I LOVE to share the pics of my son crying/whining, etc. (I print pictures to mail to the great-grandparents). Yes, it makes me laugh to look at them. Don't want everyone to think my kid always smiles in every picture. No my child is not a perfect angel. I've never heard a negative comment like "WHy did Jessica mail us this picture of her son crying?"

So I'm with you. Brush off those that have no sense of humor. Not a big deal.

One of my favorite and most memorable pictures of my daughter was when she was 2, sitting on Santa's lap. It was one of those moments where I have to have a santa pic even if its a crying one type of picture moments. She looks mortified in the picture. (FYI: she is 5 now and we haven't had a santa picture since...which is ok with me, at least I got one, right?) I look back on it and laugh and I did have it as my profile picture where many others got a huge laugh out of it too. In fact I've never had anyway say anything bad about a sad/angry picture.

Of course we do, good grief. It's not like we're whopping the child to MAKE them pout or cry, just capturing a moment in their life, albeit a sad one, but still. You can put a little disclaimer at the bottom of those pictures 'no child was harmed in the making of this picture' LOL. Sorry, I know how meddlesome and accusatory some people can be. Let them know you appreciate your concern but you know the circumstances behind the photo and you stand behind your decision. Were most of the comments from people w/o children? They seem not to fully understand nor appreciate those pouty/angry little pictures. However, I bet their Mom's have pix of them in those poses.

Don't be afraid, snap away Mom

yes i do. My little, JJ, girl gets this mean, determined pout that I love so much. It is freakin adorable. The photographer at our family portraits thought so too and that turned out to be everybodys favorite picture of her.
I have so many pictures of her making a face, other than smiling, that I have nicknamed it JJ Face. I have a JJ Face album on facebook that people follow like twitter! They are always asking for the newest installment of JJ Face.

A Story (or 2) for you...

My youngest Stepson (whom is now 16 but he has been my SS since he was 3) was/kind of still is the most stubborn kid ever! We got him his first bike over at our house when he was @7 yrs old...we ask him if he knows how to ride it, he says yes of course he does and how he has been riding bikes at his mom's house for years, yadda, yadda....he gets on his new bike and proceeds to go straight down the driveway, head on straight into the parked car directly across the street! He threw his bike down and went and sat on the grass...I immediately snapped a picture of his pouty face!! It was hilarious! We still joke about his stubborn side and bring up this picture, even now at 16!

I have the cutest professional picture of my 2 boys with Santa...my oldest was about 3 at the time and he wasn't so sure about having to sit with Santa, so I just had him stand next to him and his face is priceless...he looks seriously pissed off! The woman was like, "should I re-take it"? I told her no...it was him and how he felt. I love it dearly!

~So to answer your question, Yes. I take pouty, crying pics of my kids sometimes! IMO, they are my children and I know them better than anyone...and its not like it is being done with bad intentions, its to capture a moment in time. My youngest boy has the CUTEST 'angry eyes' I have ever seen...I LOVE IT!

YUP! But don't continue to do it when your baby becomes a sassy preschooler...I almost got hit with a shoe! (and she got to contemplate her actions in a nice time out...but it was my fault for antagonizing her sour mood with a camera.) We have "REALLY MAD" pics of both babies wearing a onesie that says, "If I'm not happy, NOBODY's happy"! They are priceless pics. Also my DS has the CUTEST "bottom lip" pout and it's priceless...he made that face the moment they handed him to be after being born, and when I see pics of him doing it, it touches my heart.
Enjoy them.

When my son was two we went to see Santa. It started out fine and out of nowhere he got hysterical and stretched his arms out for mama. Daddy snapped the shot right before I got there. It was a priceless shot. That was our Christmas card that year. The comments from people with kids were things like "hysterical!" "Love it!" "too cute", etc. The comments from our friends without kids were things like "You're cruel" " Poor baby", etc. It's all about perspective! :) All these moments are fleeting, so we try to capture them all. We have giggles and silly dances captured on video, but we also have a few tantrums and hysterics.

HA HA! My 2nd son in general is just a grump! It's just his personality. My hubby and I said he came out screaming and hasn't stop. So YES, it seems every outing or activity we do there is one of him laughing hysterically and another of him full on tantrum screaming. I laugh while I'm taking his picture and I laugh afterward otherwise I'd just loose it myself!

For his 1st birthday I did a video of all his videos I had taken of him that first year and I had probably 2-3 videos of him just crying. My thoughts were at first wow I wonder how many people would think this is cruel. But the other part of me said this was how his 1st year was, way would I not include it! And I love the video every minute of it, so glad I included his meltdown moments :)

Up until this past week my profile picture for FB was him screaming mad and covered in snow. Needless to say his first sleigh ride didn't go to well and he face planted in the snow. I couldn't resist snap a picture before I picked him up. I still laugh hysterically when I see that photo, simply because of all kids to have it happened to it was my grump by nature--just seemed so capture the essence of who he is!

I am very against posting kids' pics on FB . . . I have maybe one or two on mine (?).

I think the "mad" pics are adorable, but I also believe children are entitled to their privacy. In the digital age it's possible to capture almost every moment of a kid's life. Would I have wanted my "bad" childhood moments published on a regular basis (even to just family/friends)? NO! So, I try to treat my kids the way I would want to be treated. This really is a new age and these issues are not always easy to handle.

I'm not suggesting that you are doing anything wrong - just giving you my perspective.

I also worry about what FB does with all those photos . . . are they archived forever somewhere?

I don't like a 3rd party having access to that much data, especially with increasing ability to use facial recognition software, etc.

Good luck, and again - no judgments here. Just my $.02.

Out of the THOUSANDS of pictures of my almost four year old the BIGGEST positive response is the picture we had done at JCP when he was six months old. We put him in a baby chick costume and he was already tired, hot and the costume BARELY fit him but I got him into it. The photographer questioned if I REALLY wanted a crying baby picture. I said keep snapping away and she did. We laughed SO HARD when we saw them, she was glad she listened to me.

My son looks at the picture now and says "what's wrong with THAT baby." He doesn't see "that baby" as himself. I LOVE that picture!

OMG - my SO does the same thing. He thinks they look so cute. At first it used to bother me (when I was a new Mom and freaked out by everything, every cry, etc), well with the second one I just shake my head at him and comfort her as I did with the first. I'm kind of glad he did take pics of those moments because now when I compare our 3 month old to our oldest 3 month old pictures, it's kind of cute how they have the same "angry" look. =)

I have also realized that with life comes good and bad memories, pictures are supposed to capture moments so heck why not. If you look think about it don't most photographers capture every moment even the negative ones?
