Do You Use the Mamapedia Search Feature?

If I have a general question or one that I think might be common (especially about a product or cooking), I always do a Mamapedia search before I post the question. The search box, IMO, is one of the best features of Mamapedia vs. Mamasource.

Do you love it, too?

So What Happened?

Ummmm, I'm dumb. I didn't know Mamasource had a search feature. I even wrote to the Mamasource powers-that-be and told them they should have one. Duh!

I've never used it to search for a particular post. It would be a cool option.

Do you think "they" are listening?

I've tried it a few times.
It's ok, but I'm not that in love with it.
If there's a topic I can remember from a month or two ago and I search on a key word, I get results starting back from 2008 then it takes FOREVER to scroll through to find the thing I was looking for that's only a month or two old.
I'd like to be able to sort responses by most recent to oldest.

I would if I ever found it worked correctly. I almost never get relevant posts, and the posts are usually a few years old. It's absolutely useless if you are trying to find a specific post. Sometimes I want to reread a post from a few days earlier. I've learned it's best to just keep review the recent questions pages until I find it.

i wish it was a better search engine...it won't sort very well, id rather it give you options to sort by revelavance, date, someones screenname....

I find that it's not intuitive. For example, yesterday I asked a question about Zoloft. I did a search on Zoloft and the first result was from almost a year ago, and prior ones listed on the results page were from 2008 and 2007. So I figured I'd ask a fresh question and as it turns out, someone had asked almost the same question over the weekend! Luckily a couple of people responding to my question had seen the weekend question and directed me to that post.

GOD NO!!!

It's my #1 gripe about this site.

I've written easily 20 posts on ADHD since the school year started, and hundreds over the past 2-3 years.

Yet... if I search ADHD... NOTHING recent comes up, and of the past few years only RANDOM ones pull. Nothing like a complete list. And believe me, I've tried every which way to get those posts.

Can't search for specific people
Can't search your own post history (I have over 10,000 posts over the past few years... even if I know exactly when... still have to next page, next page, 100, 500, 1000 times of clicking)
Can't search for anything recent
Can't keyword or string of words search

I detest the search feature and have given up on it. There have been times that I am looking for a specific post and know exactly what I am looking for, yet I can not get the the search feature to return it. So no I am not a fan.

No. It needs to be opposite of what it is. When I want to search, it brings up stuff from like 2007 and I don't want to weed through the millions to find something I'd just seen like 3 days ago.
However, for a general thing it comes in handy, because I'm not looking for something specific. Mamasource's was easier in my opinion though.

I always get unrelated things - NEVER what I am looking for. Unfortunately. I also like to go back to my old questions if I asked for recipes or something that I can use again.

If the same kind of situation pops up (my daughter and her messy room) I can go look at some of the suggestions I haven't tried and try again.

I liked the old Mamasource search so much better. I don't particularly like this one. To each her own, I guess!

I use it pretty often. It's full of our answers from over the years. I think a lot of people just don't realize it's there or they'd use it too before asking some of the questions they ask.
I know people do use it tho because sometimes I'll get a flower and when I check it -it will be from a really old post, probably from someone that decided to look something up in "search".

It's a nice feature!

I've used it a few times when I think of a question I'd like to ask that I think might've been asked before...it's helped me out every time! I wish others used it more often! :)

I typically use it before I ask a question however as others have said I tend to find a lot of unrelated things. Also, if I search and I come up with a lot of old posts I'll ask again thinking that there are likely new members since the related post that will have new insights.

Sometimes I'll just search things for fun to see what there is.

I tell people to do a search if it's something that gets asked all the time like Essure. There's a LOT already and probably has the info she's looking for.
