I am going through a divorce, but I do not have thousands of dollars to pay for an attorney. My soon to be ex-husband and I have agreed my daughter will reside with me, and he will have visitation with her on Tues. and Thurs. from 6pm - 8pm and every other weekend. Everything has been running smoothly so far, but in regards to child support, we have never and will never agree on anything that has to do with finances, so that is the only reason I am seeking help from an attorney. I would like for us to have an agreement made and submitted to the courts, so we can move on with our lives. My ex-husband said I can just ask him for money when I need it, but I honestly don't feel comfortable with that and I don't think that would work. Thanks for your help! J.

Hi J.! There is always a catch when you can agree on most things. I was wondering where you were at, because i know of a few around here...but once again, not sure where you are. Good luck and I pray that you can talk some sense into the soon to be ex before you have to waste even one dollar on court.

If you don't agree on things, it will cost you thousands. My ex hubby drug ours out for 3 years. I spent around six grand in lawyer costs. And the judge did not make him pay for it, even though he filed.
A judge will approve no custody agreement without a support order and certification of parenting classes from both parents. You probably need to let hubby know that it is the law and unavoidable, he must finacially support his child and insure her. The only way to insure that he will is to have the court order and employer witholding.
If you can agree on everything (if left to the judge he splits all half and half, no matter what) you will save you and him thousands of dollars and tons of headaches and a big heartache.
My biggest disappointment about my divorce was that I thought on that final day that the judge would see I was mistreated and give me all that I deserved. It was supposed to be my day of reckoning. It wasn't. It was the first day to move on. Which has meant more than vengance.
