Dogs Barking in My Neighborhood

When we moved in our house 2 years ago, our dog was barking at night.. We did not realize it cause we are hard sleepers. Anyway the first night we were in our house the police came to our door about the dog. They came by maybe 3 times since we have lived here. We got a bark collar and it has worked wonders. But I wished that whom ever complained would have come to us before calling the police because it was very embarrasing!!! Just give them a chance before you call the city, or HOA, or police. Good Luck FYI the bark collar works wonders, but some people think its mean, its not near the shock that people think!!

Hi M., I live in Allen. We moved here a year ago and had the same problem. We don't have a HOA so this is what we were told we had to do by the city of Allen. First we have to confront the owners. If nothing is resolved by doing that then we call city of allen and they would send a letter to them. I have a home daycare so it was a big deal to me at nap time. Really, anytime. We don't let our dog stay out and bark. I think it is one of the most annoying things in the world. I confronted the neighbor myself (after 6 months of listening to this)and she was fine about it. I was very nice about it and so was she. It has improved 95%. I recently saw she was pregnant so it will probably get even better after she has her child.

I would recommend contacting your local Animal Control. They may be able to help you out without you having to confront your neighbor personally. If you have an HOA, look through the information and see how it addresses "barking dogs" ... I am sure it is in there somewhere. Good luck!

Not very ethical but...When I was a kid we had this problem and my parents set up a water sprinkler next to the dog's fence, when he would bark they would turn on the sprinkler. I don't know if that is possible depending on if the yard borders yours or not. First I would just talk to the owners as a very undernapped pregnant woman.

CALL YOUR HOA!!! They can do something about it and if not, call the Animal Control in your town!! If this doesn't work, call the Police-non emergency phone number!!

I was VP of my HOA and we handled things of this nature by contacting the homeowner and making them aware of the numerous complaints and if that didn't work, we fined them and then contacted Animal Control.

Your HOA should be made aware of the problem especially if it excessive!!

You can actually call the non-emergency police number and report it. I believe it is considered disturbing the peace at that hour of the morning. They will most likely come check it out and speak to the people. We had the same situation in our neighborhood. The dogs would bark in the morning at the same time you are experiencing, as well as in the evening from 9-11. We tried the HOA but it did very little. The situation has gotten much better since we started calling the police. It still happens once in awhile but not like it used to. Good Luck!
