We're in the midst of switching health plans and I am very upset I have to leave my current OBGYN (Drs Meyer and Crandall) as they're not covered under United Healthcare. Does anyone know anything about Dr Howey or know someone who may have an opinion on her?

I saw Dr. Howey this past Monday and was amazed with she and her staff. I've never felt so welcomed into a doctor's office. Nor did my husband! OBGYNs often ignore the father and totally focus on the mother when incorporating care with the whole couple seems so important - especially when you have a father who WANTS to be included! She's very knowlegeable and very competent. I'm VERY picky about doctors - especially OBGYNs as I have worked for some amazing and horrible OBGYNs in the past so am always very critical. Not to mention I'm a high risk pregnancy so I want someone who really listens to me. She listened to every word I had to say. Even asking extensive questions and re-opening my file to jot down more notes. I am thrilled to be under her care and feel very confident with my current pregnancy with her as my doctor. THANK YOU LADIES for all of your good words about her and the push to see her, she's as wonderful as everyone said!!!
UPDATE: I had my second baby girl on January 29, 2007 and thanks to Dr. Howey and her staff, I had a wonderful pregnancy and delivery. I've never felt more taken care of by a doctor! She's wonderful - I can't say enough positive things about her. If you need an OBGYN - she's a dream doctor for sure!

I know I'm responding late to your question, but I hope you chose Dr. Howey. She delivered my son in March. I had to switch to her late in my pregnancy, and couldn't have been happier. Her and her staff are wonderful!
Susan Howey used to belong to Woman to Woman in Crystal Lake and I saw her there, She is excellent, very patient and understanding and gentle. I wouln't hesitate to go to her again.

Hi Erin, Unfortunately, I have no information on Dr. Howey. I have just recently moved to Il and am in the process of finding an OBGYN myself. When I saw your email that you really liked Dr.'s Meyer and Crandall, it caught my attention. I have an appointment with Dr. Crandall later in the week. I am currently pregnant and I was wondering if you could tell me what you like about them. Have you delivered any children with them? Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Dr Howey is a VERY good doctor. I moved out here last year and had to switch too and found her because she was so close to the house. I ended up getting pregnant for my 3rd time about 3 months ago and it was an ectopic pregnancy and she did my surgery. She is VERY thorough and will explain EVERYTHING that you need to know. I highly recommend her. I like the fact that she has her own office too and works out of one of the most beautiful hospitals that I have ever seen. That helps sometimes too... Let me know if you would like to know anything else about her. It's been a little over a year since I've been seeing her, but probably about 20 visits, so I could probably help you with anything that you need to know.
Dr. Howey assisted in the birth of my second son. She has excellent bedside manner. My current OB used to work in a group with her, and she highly reccomends her! My OB has an office in Algonquin, although she spends the majority of her time in McHenry. Her name is Mary Riggs, she is WONDERFUL! I would reccomend her to anyone! Also, Dr. Whittman and Dr. Precino are great too. (Whittman being my 1st choice)
