I need to take the road test soon so I can get my drivers license. Yes I'm 30 and have never had a license!! Anyone who recently took a road test...can you tell me how difficult is was? What do they have you do? I'm so nervous.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took my test and passed! yay I'm so happy. But anyway, the one thing I really wasn't expecting them to do was have me parallel park! I failed the first time by hitting a cone. But I went back the next day and took it again and passed. The driving test at the office down on Broadmont is extremely easy. We we out through the Palo Verde exit around the corner and back in through the Broadmont exit. So, aside from the parallel parking it was a piece of cake. I'm sure the parallel parking would've been a little easier had I not been in a mini-van! lol Thanks for all the help ladies!

It's been a while since I took mine, but my sister recently took her's at the MVD there by Peter Piper and she said it was rather easy. They have you take a few turns and drive around the block. They make sure you signal and check your blind spots before moving. They also have you change lanes and then they have you park. just a suggestion, but she said she didn't have to do any backing up because she backed into the parking spot when she got there so that when they were grading, she just had to pull out. You may want to do the same! hope this helps!

my son took his test last year in sierra vista. all he had to do was the written test and then he had to go outside in the parking lot for a "road test". they made him go through this area with cones about 20 feet then stop and make a three point turn. he was so nervous because he thought he had to drive in toen at 4 PM and there's lots of traffic at that time. but that was it. i dont know what they do in the bigger cities but that is what they do in sierra vista. if your nervous it might be worth it to call the DMV at several sities and aske them what their road test consists of so you can practice. good luck

While the difficulty of the test might vary depending on where you live (there was more than one town where I grew up that would NEVER pass a boy on the first time, though they never stated it like that, there was just the fact that no boy ever passed on the first time), they tend to look for the following things:

switching lanes (using turn signal), a right turn and a left turn, a proper parking (usually on a hill - remember which way to point your tires!), a parallel parking (usually between cones, not cars), proper stops as stop signs, whether you're using all of your mirrors when you drive, whether you buckle up (and don't forget to make sure they do as well!), and a general check to make sure your car works - brakes, turn signals, defrosts, heat/cool, windshield wipers, lights (and fog lights if you have them), parking break, etc.

Most importantly, try not to get TOO nervous - you'll do fine. If you want, have whoever is helping you learn create a "fake course" with you and having you do most of these things. Remember to keep the radio off, and to make the car as comfortable as possible (don't make it too hot or you'll get sleepy). And make sure the car you're using has gas, I had a friend who forgot that and.....let's just say embarrassing doesn't even BEGIN to cover it. *grin*

It won't be difficult, it'll usually be one policeperson with you. You can answer their questions while driving, but don't feel that you HAVE to talk. You can always hum a song under your breath if it calms you. Let us know how it goes!

Haha, I was just talking about this recently with a couple friends.
Have you been taking driving classes (not sure if it is required or not), but bad habits from comfortable drivers can cause you to fail.
I can give you 3 suggestions I learned from my recent conversation: 1.Turn on your signal, then look for a clear space to change lanes(you must use your turn signal for 3 seconds before changing lanes....sounds like a long time)
2. If you are driving a manual, shift into first gear at a stop light. Many people opt for neutral, but that is a no-no
3. When turning right, turn into the right lane, or the left lane when turning left.

Of course, if you are taking lessons and you know all this and you will be fully prepared, and your test should be a piece of cake. I passed my test In downtown los angeles, when I was 20, with no mistakes.

I didn't get mine till I was 20 and thought that was different-- how have you managed to not drive with two kids? Anyways.. the way I did it was I took the test through a private place instead of the actual DMV- it costs a little bit more- but you wont have the huge wait and they tend to be a little more forgiving- good luck!

I took my test when I was 30 and I felt the same way. I actually went over to Moriaty and all they did then was make sure you stop at stop signs and turn on your signals. Once you've taken the test the rest really comes to you.
