okay I have a horrible ear ace and cant get to a doctor til morning I have tried everything to stop the pain and nothing is helpin. I have to do a drug screening for a job next week at a hospital. I was wondering if I took a ibuprofen would it give a false positive on a drug screening? I just can't handle the pain til morning.

What can I do next?

Sometimes when i have an earache, it is really just a blocked saliva gland that is located all the way in the back of your mouth behind your molars. The swelling puts pressure on the ear and your eustachian tube and it is very painful. If you suck on a few slices of lemon, it causes the saliva gland to open and relieves the pressure and the pain. You might try that. Hope you feel better.

No it will not.

Try warming abut of olive oil and using an eye dropper to put a few drops in ear. Just a few and test the temperature.

According to this (see table 3):

ibuprofen can cause a false positive test result so avoid taking it.

It's not likely to help relieve ear ache pain anyway.
Try keeping a heating pad on it - heat can help a lot with the pain and should help you long enough to get to the doctor tomorrow.

My husband pops ibuprofen like an addict for his back pain. He has never had a false positive nor has he been warned it is an issue with drug tests.

Then again it is morning so this probably wouldn't help.

They are only looking for illegal drugs. Ibuprofen is not illegal, so it doesn't matter if it comes up on a drug panel (which it will).
You're fine.

unfortunately ear pain is one of those things that just doesn't respond well to OTC pain-killers, so you'd be risking a false positive and probably not get any relief.
the olive oil and heating pad may not do much either, but will be at least as effective without the risk.
i hope you're able to get it fixed soon!

I have to take random drug testing for my job, and I have never had a positive test and I take ibuprofen for pain regularly. In fact the last time I had a random, I was not only taking ibuprofen, but also an antibiotic for a UTI. I was concerned about a false positive so I spoke with the nurse and was told that they look for very specific things, (I don't remember exactly what the word she used was) and over the counter drugs and many prescriptions won't flag as positive. If your that concerned about it, just mention it to whomever takes the nest and they can note it in your file.
