Mamas Papas-

Can you recommend a hand cream for very dry hands I would be able to pick up in a drugstore? I was thinking perhaps Neutrogena or that Bag Balm stuff. Am I overlooking some favorites?

This is a request from my MIL, so I'd love to get her something that will really do the trick.

Thanks,
F. B.

Neosporin has a new Excema lotion that is wonderful! I use it on my children and for my very dry skin as well. It's thick, hydrating and non-greasy!

Aveeno - it's expensive but it's awesome. I have eczema on my hands and now that I'm in my 50s my hands are super dry. Although I used to swear by this one particular Avon cream, once I tried the Aveeno I'll never go back to the Avon cream. But, as I said it's expensive but it's amazing, awesome. None of the other products even come close.

I love the Cetaphil cream. It is nice and thick and my daughter uses it on her elbows and knees-they get a bit ashy dry. If your MIL hands are super dry, she can put it on after washing her hands at night and then put on a pair of cotton gloves--or socks. This helps prevent the cream from being rubbed of and really get in there. When my daughter was born my hands got super dry from washing bottles and such and I did this. After a week, my hands were much better.

The best thing I've found was in a bargain bin at Rite Aid. It's called "Body America" body butter. It has WWII pin-up girls on it and smells great. I find if something doesn't smell good I won't use it. It's the only thing that got rid of my "catholic knees." I also use "Queen Helene" whipped cocoa butter, which is way better than Palmer's. Palmer's is too waxy and didn't seem to sink into my skin. "Queen Helene's" smells better too, but greasey so use that one at night.

Does it have to be from a Drug Store?

If so, there is a pretty good neutrogena one that is non greasy. Eucerin is good too. I found Bag Balm to be too greasy for me. I've not seen this in a while but there used to be a product called Udder Butter that was good.

Bath and Body has a nice one with parrafin in it, non greasy that is wonderful.

Origins has a great one as well, so does L'Occtaine.

Good luck.

Vanicream is the best stuff on earth and I am pretty sure they sell it at Walgreen's now. It is used for severe eczema and is non greasy, has no fragrance or masking fragrance and no formaldehyde or parabens. Yeah! I keep the 16 oz tub with the pump on my bedside stand and use it every night.
If your MIL has problems with lots of creams, it is probably the preservatives they use in there. I think its best to wait until a person is dead to start coating them in formaldehyde myself....that's why I swear by Vanicream

Cetaphil works great for me. Also, Aveeno makes a lotion specifically for dry hands. I cant remember the exact name, but it has a dark maroon colored cap. I like that one, too. But, I cant always find it.

If you are looking for a nice present there is a hand cream made by L'Occitaine that is gorgeous! Its expensive, $25 for a tube, but mine lasted about a year and I felt like I was treating myself special when I put it on. Its very creamy, not greasy and leaves your hands soft. I used it twice a day.

Best,
R.

Hi! Eucerin healing hand cream is the best. I've tried everything out there. It is super moisturizing, but is not greasy. (I hate feeling like I'm smearing cream on everything I touch :) Its available pretty much everywhere. Good luck!

My husband is friendly with someone in Germany who is starting to import a cream called Kauffmann's skin and baby cream. He has sent us some samples and they are amazing! Less like a something that you would put on in the morning, though (it's a little heavy), and more like a night cream that you would slather on hands and feet and then cover with socks. If you'd like me to send you one of our little samples, send me a private message.

Curel is the only one that works for me. I keep bottles everywhere and apply every time I wash hands or do dishes. It absorbs fast and lasts a while.
