DS Games for 5 Yo

I was going to get my 5 yo son a leap pad until they became impossible to find. My 8 yo daughter is getting a nintendo 3DS and my SIL said she is getting my 4 yo nephew a Nintendo 3DS also (which I think is crazy). So if I can't find the leap pad I thought of getting my son a DS also, since I know he will be upset if my nephew and daughter have one and he doesn't, and he can grow into it. When my daughter got her first DS at age 6, she was a little frustrated (as was I) because most of the games required reading ability and were therefore difficult for her. Are there any DS games now that are easy and appropriate for a 5 yo with limited reading ability?

BTW-- I refuse to buy toys at over gouged prices when a week after Christmas they will be every where. So I won't be going the eBay route for the leap pad

What can I do next?

Leap Pads aren't impossible - they are just expensive now...

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p546...

I would NOT give a 4 year old a 3D DS....I regret buying the one we did - in fact my boys didn't like it and traded it in at gamestop.

There are some games out there for limited reading but I am sorry - I can't remember which ones. I can do some searching...

Are you getting him a regular DS?
I can't say I think the 3D one is a good idea.
Hurts the eyes.
Anyhoo...if you are getting him the regular DS, the games my DD (newly 6) loves:
Let's Draw!
Rhythm Heaven
The Legend of Starfy
New Super Mario Brothers
New Zealand Story
The Backyardigans
Any Sonic game...

She plays the first two the most and they are the most educational.
Neither require reading ability.

HTH!

Yes, there are games for 5 year olds. My mother purchased a DS for my son about 1 month shy of his 4th birthday. I, too, was concerned that he would be too young to play any games, but not so. Super Mario, Mario Go-Kart, Sonic, and Toy Story DS games are all appropriate. He won't need to read to be able to play.

there are games for early learning. wonder pets, diego, elmo, toy story (i think) etc. my 4 year is getting a dsi for christmas and since early learning games are too slow for her im getting her hello kitty games, pinkalicious, and my little pony games they are rated for everyone.

"Cooking Mama."

very fun.

Many DS games, are typically for older kids. Hence the games, have reading on it, which reflects the age parameters for the games.
