Dulles or Ohare?

I'm braving the craziness and taking hte family back to NY for Christmas - we plan to fly out early in the morning on christmas eve. Our flight options are either connecting in Chicago or Dulles.

I'm not super familiar with Dulles but was wondering if anyone could share their experiences? I've done Chicago tons of times but know that December is tough - especially at Christmas - and worry about weather and delays.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Go with Dulles and take Cheryl O's phone number with you! Cheryl - will you be around at Thanksgiving time also?

In December, I would go with Dulles every time. I've had some delays in Dulles, of course. Every airport has some. But I avoid Chicago at all costs in the winter. It's too unpredictable.

Dulles definitely. Chances are better that weather will be OK. Chicago
could be dicey. Have fun.

Generally speaking, Dulles is a much easier airport. Weather wise, you'll likely have better luck in DC than in Chicago at Christmas. My brother and his wife like there in DC and have always opted for Dulles whenever possible and they fly out for business at all times of year. They have yet to get stuck in Dulles.

Years ago I flew out with my son in mid-March from northern MI via Chicago to get to California. This was in '92 and my son just turned 5. Needless to say, the weather was horrid and we had to spend an unexpected 24 hours there and it was cold and with all the people it was a mad rush trying to find another flight out, waiting in line just to use the toilet and sleeping on the floor with nothing but a beach towel. I was concerned about security as well so Mommy did not sleep! That airport is just so huge so imagine the place getting shut down and all of those people stuck in there, lol. Crazy!

Try Dulles.

Dulles is better than O'Hare and less likely to be closed for inclement weather.

And I'm only 8 miles away so if it does close and you took it because of my recommendation - call me and I will come get you!!!

I've been to Dulles tons of times. :) It's easy to get around, there's a bunch of stores/restaurants, and overall it's pretty organized, in my experience. But it does depend on the Christmas traffic. Have fun in NYC..it's BEAUTIFUL at Christmastime. Very enchanting. :)

O'Hare has a reputation for being a nightmare to get through.
Dulles isn't bad - you can actually get to the gates in a reasonable amount of time without having to worry about missing your connection.

IME, flying into Dulles has been relatively uneventful, Ohare--not so much!

Dulles without a doubt! After a couple of crazy experiences with O'Hare I swore to only ever connect into Midway if going via Chicago.
Must. Avoid. O'Hare!! :-)
Good Luck!

Dulles!!!! I live near Dulles, so I fly out from there, not connect. But it is a much smaller airport in my opinion than O'Hare. O'Hare is much more a hub, and it is HUGE. I have run for connections both times I flew threw there. I definately vote for Dulles.
