I have an 11 month old girl who has always been a great sleeper. Asleep by 7:00pm and up around 6:30ish. For the past two weeks she is waking up anywhere between 5:00 and 5:30. Tried to move bed time to 8:00, but still waking up early. Also, she is extremely grumpy between 7:00pm and 8:00pm before bedtime. Any ideas, willing to try anything.

What can I do next?

My son sometimes wakes up early, so when he does, I tell him he needs to go back to bed because it's still night time (still dark) and if I go lay down by him for a little while he usually does. I don't know what's going to happen when summer hits and the sun comes up before I'm ready to get up.

Hey there! I am a first time working mom too of an 11 month old boy! I'm not an expert, but from what I've heard and read, they only need 10 hours a night, so your baby is probably getting into that groove now. I would try keeping her up a bit later so she'll sleep later maybe? Otherwise, it sounds like if she goes down at 8:00 and wakes up at 5:30 she's on track. She does nap in the morning and afternoon for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour each nap?

She may be overtired - that makes them (and adults, too) sleep worse. My daughter is 10 months and is similiar to yours; she goes to bed between 6:30-7 pm and wakes up between 7-7:30 am. EVERYTIME she is up late for whatever reason, we think she'll sleep later in the morning to make up for it. Everyime, she wakes up earlier than normal because she's overtired; their bodies just get too restless and are unable to calm down. Put her down when she shows signs of being tired - that will probably help the rising time after a few days.

Hello,

One of the things I did to fix this same problems was to put my twins down for a later nap. In some instances since my twins were awake so early I would give them two naps one is the late morning which was maybe about an hour and then I would give them a nap in the afternoon. But my most success was giving them a later nap in the afternoon. Good Luck.

Hello, I read the book "healthy sleep, happy baby" and it is so great! I followed what this guy said and my daughter has always been a great sleeper and if she had a change in sleep I did what the book said. Try putting your child to sleep EARLIER than 7, I know this sounds insane but, my daughter had a few months when she was going to bed at 5:45, and sleeping till 6:30 or 7am. If you read this book then it tells you why this works, I wont get into it but I know it works! good luck:)

I had this with my sixth month old and I was told to leave him in the crib. That I needed to decide when it was time to get up. So he would cry and cry and then he would fall asleep. Sometimes it took a little while but I never went in there. She will learn. Just try it for a few mornings. Good luck!

I read many years ago that when children wake up real early, they usually are not getting enough sleep. Sounds ironic...I know! :) I'd put her down for bed at 7:00 like you used to and if she continues to get up early then try 6:30. If she is going through a new milestone, she made need just an extra 30 minutes early bedtime for a few weeks to get over the hump. If that doesn't work. I'd just continue putting her down at 7:00 and when she wakes up early in the a.m., just leave her there until the usual get up time at 6:30. My kids all slept 7 pm - 7 am for a long time, but did go through phases of getting up around 5:30, but they weren't allowed up until 6:30 or 7:00 am depending. Even the alone veg time in her crib is good for her even if she is awake early. Hope that helps!

Has she recently maybe reach a milestone like pulling herself up or walking? I have a 13 month old boy and when he started to learn to sit up and pull himself up, he would wake up and not want to go back to bed because he was so excited! It took us a while to get past this phase, but it was a phase. It could also be teething? I have always heard that sleep begets sleep and I know it's true in our case. Have you tried maybe putting her to bed earlier? I know that's not really convenient, and not sure if it would even work with your schedule, but she might be going through a period when she needs more sleep. Good luck!!

Try a little white noise, like a fan, or even a very soft radio.

Hi. I was wondering about her nap time and how many naps? And how long she sleeps? I would say if she is grumpy, put her to sleep earlier for night time. Maybe she is just not getting enough sleep. My experience has been that even if I keep mine up until 10 pm, she'll still get up at 6:30. However, as mine as gotten older she has started to sleep later (thank goodness). Oh and one more thing...sometimes mine makes noises in the morning, but if I just wait a little bit she'll go back to sleep a little longer.

She's probably cranky in the evening because she's sleepy! remember she is up early! ou might not be able to control when she gets up but she might go down at 7:30.
