put hydrogen peroxide on them to clean out the infection and don't wear any earrings until they are totally healed. Then you should only wear stainless steel studs or earrings made for sensitive ears.
I have pierced ears, they've been pierced since I was 13. I have 2 holes in one ear and 4 in the other. I havent worn earrings much in the last couple of years, as my little one tries to pull them out. I decided to wear earrings in the 2 oldest holes (the regular, traditional ones) yesterday to a Christmas party. Ever since then one of the holes has been super sore and puss-y, and oddly enough, all of them have a little puss, except for the one piercing in my cartilage at the top. I'm not sure what I did, they were not real silver earrings but they werent cheapo ones either.
My question is what do I do to take care of them? Is it normal for them to get infected so long after they were peirced? The biggest problem I'm having is that the one that is super sore is the one I use to answer the phone at work, so I keep bumping it.
Thanks everyone! I cleaned the holes with peroxide, which seemed to help, they arent nearly as painful this morning. I will also try to remember to clean my earrings before I use them next time, even if they look clean already. :-)

I would go get some of the peroxide type solution that they give to little girls when they first get their ears pierced. Keep putting them on there, and hopefully, they will heal up.
Earrings should be cleaened before wearing them with peroxide alchol or ear cleaning solution. You can use a cotton ball or take the backs off of them and let them sit for a few minutes in whatever solution you choose to clear off the bacteria on the earrings. You have an infection on your ear lobes I would use alchol with a Qtip or cotton ball then switch to peroxide a few times a day.The ear cleaning solution is fairly cheap & can be bought @ Walmart seperatley from the earrings package.
Use campho phenique. It will take the infection and soreness out
i also have several holes in my ears, a look i love but as i get older i use the "extra" ones less and less, sadly :( i have the exact same problem. i think it's like someone else said, you may rip it a bit putting them in after so long, and maybe they're old earrings and a little dirty (even if it's just dust) and something gets in there to irritate it, causing an infection. i just clean the earrings as i take them out, and wipe everything with alcohol or peroxide, ears, backs, earrings. it goes away eventually. the best way i have found to avoid it is to wear earrings more often. good luck. sucks growing up huh? :)
I was told years ago to boil your earrings soak them in peroxide and you triple ointment on the stems of the earrings and your ears. I hope this helps you. Have a very merry christmas.
You can still get infections even after they are healed. You might have rebroken some skin while putting the earrings in and it caused an infection. Try cleaning all the holes with alcohol for a couple of days but if it didn't heal up by then, I would go see a doctor.
Good luck!
You may be allergic to nickle. I am and it is in a lot of earring posts. Make sure the next time you put earrings in they are real... and stick to gold. I believe sterling silver has a high nickle count.
Mine does the same thing. Here's what my daughter and I do, get some ear care dip the earrings in it and swab your ears with it too yo can also use alcohol or peroxide but ear care is desing for taking care of pierced ears. After not wearing earrings for a while soap gets into them and bacteria can set into them. I used to pierce ears years ago. Good luck. D.
When I was younger my grandma always had me soak my ears in hot salt water as hot as I could stand it, It always took the soreness out of my ears as well as healed them. Trick to soaking ear in hot salt water is 2 fill glass with the hotest water you can stand an then put the salt in an place glass to your ear an hold it there.
You may have developed an allergy to the posts on your earrings. I have discovered that after having kids my body rejects some things that it used to not have an issue with before. I would clean the holes with Peroxide and then put some neosporin (or something like that) on your ears. Good luck.
Your holes had started closing up so what you possibly happened was that the earring you put in opened it up and it wasn't sterile. The hole started weeping and caused the others to weep. You should see a doctor and get antibiotics to stop the infection and not put anything in your ear until it heals.
I have had the same problem. I have 3 holes in one ear and two in the other. I don't wear earrngs in the op holes often but when I do they get very sore and seem infected. If I wear the earrings for a day or two it seems to clear up pretty quick. I just turn them and keep them clean just like when they were newly pierced. The key is to not take the earrings out until for a few days so you get use to them again.
This is totally gross but your earring holes normally gather gunk and thats what is coming out of those other holes! Its pretty nasty, but that happens to everyone. I have the same issue with my earring holes when I wear earrings. They get sore and filled with puss for a few days and then they are fine again.
That has happened my whole life when I haven't worn ear rings for a while. I do nothing and it heals up in a week. Holes never close up either. All the ear rings I own are either gold, silver, or stainless steel so it is not an allergy issue. I have never asked but I think it is due to knocking that bit of dead skin out and as others have said scraping the inside a bit. Anyway, no worries, it heals just fine.
I had issues with what you're talking about for years, until I began exclusively wearing hoop earrings. The alcohol and peroxide never seemed to make any difference. I'm guessing the reason is that wearing hoops allows air to get to your earring holes... also gives a child something bigger to hang onto. :-)
