Mamas & Papas-

Any tips or suggestions for good easter photo ideas? (apart from the B. at the mall?) Our boy is now 4, and we'd like to take and send some pics especially to family abroad. Anything I've found online in terms of ideas seems more geared for the infant/ toddler set.

Thanks,
F. B.

Is there a nice indoor venue near you?
A museum, conservatory? Somewhere warm?
Put a cute, but casual, outfit on him and try to get near greenery or flowers.
I've always despised the "B. at the mall" stock Easter shot!

I always just took pictures of my kids in the yard/garden, so pretty that time of year. Sometimes with their baskets in hand. If you don't have a pretty yard just go to a local park, garden or other "green" area. Really that's all you need, young children + nature = instant beauty.

I'm not super creative so keep that in mind with my suggestions. :) I wonder if it would be nice to take pictures while decorating eggs. Maybe hand him some eggs with a paint brush and ask him to paint an egg. If there's a church nearby with neat stained glass windows I think those are nice backdrops. If you want more light hearted you could always go with a photo booth type setting where you make the B. nose/ears out of construction paper and glue on rods. If you have a butterfly exhibit anywhere close, those are fun to do pictures. You could have him in a nice rocking chair reading an Easter story. Have him create an Easter masterpiece and take his picture with it.

Blessings and enjoy your son and the season.

Can you find a place where he can pet baby chicks or bunnies? (A petting zoo or farm)? I think that would be so cute!!!

You can have him wear a head band with rabbit ears - create postcards that say, "Some B. loves you! Happy Easter! Love, xxxx

Best,

I'm sure there are a ton of ideas on Pinterest, but it seems to me that photographs are getting rather hokey. A family friend's daughter had her first and hired a photographer rather than traditional hospital pics. I kid you not-there was one of the baby laying on a stuffed unicorn with electronic pink background. It was terrible!!!
I just love traditional Easter pics, all dressed up outside the church, or the house, or at a park. It might even be cool (if possible) to mock his dad's easter pic from when he was around the same age. My sons from that age were done in a studio holding a basket and some eggs. The photographer was a friend and did a great job capturing his expressions and making him smile.

my favorite ones are never the posed ones, but the shots we got when they were running around having a blast with baskets and egg hunts. harder to get, of course, but the real joy is so much more apparent.

I take a yearly picture of my kids painting the eggs - we do it quite ahead of time, and they can be as silly as they want. One year all the eggs looked like lambs (cotton balls), another they drew on moustaches.

The nice thing about it is, I have one for every year so now I have quite a collection. Family likes getting the most recent up to date one to stick on their fridge every Easter. I like sending a spring card to my relatives and friends that the kids make - but it's all very non-formal and funny more so than serious.

The kids ham it up for the camera and it's as much fun for them as it is to get a good picture.

This year they are going to make eggs that look like them (googly eyes, and yarn for hair, etc.)
