Ebay or Craigslist?

I'm in a spring clean mode and am wondering about your experiences between EBay and Craigslist - what listing yields better results? In other words, what types of items do better on eBay and what types do better on Craigslist? I've got everything from children's clothing to pet carriers to household stuff. I'd love to hear your feedback!

I agree with all the postings before me! Smalls and light items (especially rare items) bring the best money on eBay and for big stuff and items you cant mail easily should be on Craigslist. I've done lots of both and they each have a benefit. I love Craigslist being free and local but eBay brings more and higher bids, with worldwide exposure! Good luck in you endeavor! ps Love the freecycle sits too!

I have had excellent luck on craigslist which is 100% free. Ebay charges sellers fees, albeit small butyou might get more for what you are selling. Anything large I would sell on craigslist because you will not have to package it up to sell it...clothing and small light soft items - ebay! Good luck!

I don't have advice about these sites. But if they don't work and you want to give anything away...try Freecycle.

B.,
If you want to sell your things quickly and locally, go with Craigs list. You'll avoid packing things in boxes and hauling to the post office, plus you'll get your money in cash when the buyer comes to pick up his/her item. Craig's list is a much easier website to list things on too.
I've bought many things on eBay but never sold anything there. A friend sells sports cards regularly and complains about a complicated listing process, people who never pay and packing and shipping.

Hi,

We've used both. My husband Ebay's everything from old computer bits to watches and coins. We buy frequently too. We like it best for hard to find items or things that are easy to mail. It does take time to photograph and type in all the description info.

We used Craigslist to sell a built in entertainment center that we wanted to remove. Worked great! the people came over to see it, paid me then came back to remove it themselves. I think Craigslist makes sense for things that are awkward or difficult to mail. (my dad sold 4 tires too) You can also put parameters on the buyers like having only local people buy or telling that they need to come pick it up.

If you Ebay plan for lots of time at the post office! Whenever my husband sells something I end up standing in line to mail the things!

Good luck!
