Embarassing Question..

Well since I have been pregnant I have had to deal with a lot of embarassing symptoms and I'm always calling the doc to ask questions. Right now I have a sore near my "area" that is like a swollen vein and very tender. I thought at first it might be a hemerroihd but I don't think that you get those in this particular area. I'm not sure what it might be and the doctor can't get me in until next week. Just wondering if any women have suffered from anything similar who maybe know what it is or something I can do to relieve the pain and tenderness.

What can I do next?

My vagina hurt all the time when I was pregnant. It would get swollen from the extra blood flowing. Your body starts to increase blood volume when your pregnant and there are quite a few symptoms that result. I never found a solution but it got better off and on and will get much better after July!

I had this with my last two pregnancies and even after I delivered. My doc said that is caused from excess blood volume down below. Sometimes, I would sit on a bag on ice or frozen peas or take a bath. Nothing really ever made it go away, but sometimes lying down with my feet and legs elevated seemed to distribute the blood more evenly. Hopefully, your doctor can make some suggestions to help you cope. I always just dealt with it as another good ol' pregnancy symptom. After your first pregnancy you tend to get more lax on things. HA!

I use herbs a lot so I googled 'herbal hemorrhoid'. The very first link had a lot of information. If you do use any herbs while pregnant or nursing, check to make sure they are safe first. There are a lot that I took, but, for instance, black or blue cohosh or fenugreek can send you into labor. Others, such as raspberry leaf tea are actually helpful throughout your pregnancy and while nursing. Anyhow, there is a lot of information out there, or you can go to a local herb store and find someone who's knowledgeable in that regard.

It's probably a vericose vein. I have friends that get them really bad in their groin and "area" when they are pregnant. I think if it's really bad they have you wear special tights to help, but there's not a whole lot you can do. The good news is they go away after you have the baby, but are horrible to deal with while you are pregnant. They are caused by all the extra blood flow in the area which is why it is so easy to get hemorrhoids also. I'm sure your doctor will help you out, but don't worry too much- just another joy of being pregnant.

I had one that would swell up and hurt when I was on my feet too long. It was a sure sign that I needed to get off my feet and rest. A soak in the tub helped me too. Good luck!

It's likely a varicose vein...yes, you get them in all sorts of places when pregnant! It's from all the pressure your little boys is placing on new spots. Fortunately, it does go away immediately after deliver but unfortunately, that is a ways off. Good luck. I had the same problem and OUCH, I know it's painful.

Sounds like it could be a cyst or a boil. It can come from friction or anything like that. I get boils every once is a while where the elastic rubs on where I have hair and it pulls it. Or it could be an ingrown hair. A warm compress will help it either pull to the surface or eleviate some of the tenderness. I would have it checked out. If it is a cyst or a boil the OBGYN can drain it so you get some relief.

I have had something that sounds similar. Does it or has it come to a head like a zit? OR is it red, sore, maybe itchy?
About the size of a dime or a quarter? If you have any of these symptoms it may be a boil. If you think it is, let me know and I'll tell you what you can do to help it.
Good Luck!

I had something similar when I was pregnant. My doctor said it was varicose veins. We didn't treat it. It went away after I had the baby. For me, a warm bath relieved the tenderness for a while. Good luck!

I also had the varicose vain issue. I exercise a lot and had to stop during the last few months-which helped.

I have had that. It was a bulging varicose vein thanks to my middle son. Right now pressure on it may help. There is something that looks almost like a man's jock strap that you wear over your undies and it helps a lot. The doctor had me roll up a maxi pad or a bunch of gauze to add pressure to that area and the strap things held it there. Later down the road a doctor, that specializes in veins and such, can inject a solution to close off that vein if you still have trouble there-I did. Before I had that done, I would have pain radiating down my leg after sex, but now I'm fine. Heat will also help. Try to get your bottom raised up(lying down, a pillow underneath) when you can. The baby creates a lot of presure in that area.

Hi...I had the same thing with my first pregnancy, and it turned out to be a cyst, but nothing serious at all. The Dr. recommended I take a lot of hot baths, just not too deep so as not to affect the baby. She also recommended I use a hot washcloth (as hot as I could stand) on the sore. Eventually it began to drain, and immediatley it felt much better. The Dr. said that if it didn't go away on its own, they could lance it to make it drain faster. Good luck!

It probably is a varicose vein--they can be common in the genital area during pregnancy. Your blood volume increases when you are pregnant and if there are "weak" veins--such as in the genital area and in the legs--they will swell up more when you are pregnant. Your doctor will probably tell you to get some good support stockings and to put them on before you get out of bed in the morning. With my first two babies I didn't have any but with the third I did--it always felt like I was being pinched. They pretty much go away after the pregnancy is over but they do come back with another pregnancy.

Keep an eye on this. My husband had a tender spot like you described on his inner thigh which turned out to be a clogged sweat gland that had somehow gotten infected. It started off red and very sensitive and turned black and bloody a few days later. All the while he was seeing a doctor. Finally the doctor sent him to a specialist and he was told he needed to have it cut out and because it had gotten so infected he needed to have surgery in the hospital rather than an office visit. If you can get in as early as you can with your doctor. It may just be an irritation, but if you have an infection, because of the area it can turn really bad really fast. Good luck.

Well, C., with all three of my pregnancies I had the same thing happen. It was during the later part of the pregnancy, and due to the extreme pressure from the added weight. My doctors, all three, told me they were a form of hemroids(sp). One of them told me that they would be gone when I gave birth, and my body went back to normal. They did....mostly...but when I had my period.....SOMETIMES....they came back a little bit. They are not something that you use the medicines for, however. Mine hurt at different varying amounts, so when they became too painful, I used a cloth that was as warm as I could handle, and held it to the area, and it would help some.
What we women must go through to bring our little ones into the world...it is worth it all when you see those precious gifts from GOD! Good luck, and dream about that sweet baby boy!

Hey C.,Try putting a cool wet wash cloth with a piece of ice and place it on the area that is hurting. I am a mother of eight children, all eight children were delivered naturally with no drugs. Everything down below can get red and swollen and hot. ICE is the wonder drug. If you can make yourself do it, I guarantee it will feel better. And take some Ibuphofen this helps with inflamation. Drink lots of water. Hope you fell better

It may be a varicose vein, as I had one there as well, except I only noticed it when riding a bicyle became painful. I was told they are common during pregnancy. A hemhorroid is just a varicose vein that is very near the anal opening.

Good luck,
H. A.
