Epcot or Universal Studios Islands of Adventure?

We have two boys, ages 5 & 3. We're planning an Orlando vacation and we were planning on going to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. But, the cost is substantially more than another day at the Disney parks and I've heard that it's not great for little kids. I think that they would enjoy the Spiderman ride & the Dr. Suess area. But, I'm not sure what more they could do? We're thinking about going to Epcot--a Disney park we were planning on skipping now and going to when our kids are older--instead. Any thoughts on one versus the other? Thanks!

Epcot, all the way. We went when my girls were 4 and 6, and they LOVED it, especially Soarin and Spaceship Earth. Our family spent the entire day there from park opening to park close. Universal will be fun when they are older.

Based on your boys ages, I would say wait on Universal Studios. My boys' favorite place in Orlando (other than Disney) was Gatorland. As an adult, it really didn't seem all that exciting to me, but they still talk about it constantly. We've gone the last 2 years so their ages ranged from 4-9. It's also significantly cheaper than the bigger amusement parks.

Seaworld was also a big hit with all my kids. I'm not sure if they always have the deal, but last year when we went, if you paid for seaworld one day, you could go back the next day at no charge. We did the first day seeing the shows and a couple rides and went back the second day and the kids played in the big climbing structure and went on all the kiddie rides. They have all the kiddie rides bunches together in one area surrounding the climbing structure which is very nice.

I am 45 years and I went to disney for a week last year on my own. It was fantastice. I stayed on the grounds at all star resort did not have to drive the whole time there. Parks stayed opend late on different days. Now, for kids 5 and 3 take your time with them. I actually bought the unofficial guide to wd. At the back of the book it has complete times and schedule to see any park you want with or without kids. I used the pages with out kids. It was the best. I saw everything. I did alot of walking and planning. Now if you use the pages planning with kids you can do it. I personally would not take kids until they are 10. In a few weeks I am going to universal studios for the first time. I can not wait. My advice would be don't ruch, have fun with your kids there because you will want to go back. It is a dream. So good luck and have lots of fun.

Universal is for older kids. It's your basic 6 flags type thrill ride park.
The spiderman ride has a 40" height requirement so not likely on the spiderman ride it gets intense for little kids
Personally I'd go with Epcot just don't do the world showcase at least not all of it , it is a long way around. Norway has a great bakery , and a ride that tells about the country.
Epcot has some great rides and is educational.

I'm not familiar with the Islands of Adventures. We took our boys to Epcot when they were 5 and 8. Other than one or two rides they didn't like it. They got bored by the foreign country exhibits, which is about half of the park (I love that part). Maybe it depends on the kids. Mine were too young /immature at the time to appreciate Epcot. A lot of the rides at Epcot have height requirements too; I would check that out on line before you make a decision. My boys loved Disney World!! I haven't been there, but I've heard good things about the Disney Wild Animal park in Orlando.

Given the ages of your kids, I say go to EPCOT. "Soarin" is one of the coolest rides ever! There is also a boat ride in Mexico.... My kids liked "The Land". The Ellen Degeneris sp? Dinosaur ride is cool too.

Save Universal for when the kids are a little bit older and can go on all the roller coaster rides.

My kids loved Epcot~ they were 1, 3, and 5 when we went there 2 yrs ago. Epcot has a lot of cool things to see and do, a few great rides, and it's just a fun place to be all around. The world showcase is a long haul and we only made it part of the way before heading back to the main part of the park. Make sure and have a stroller for your 3 yr old as it can be a lot of walking, especially for little legs.
We are heading to Orlando in a couple weeks and seriously thinking about Universal. Our kids are still very young so we are weighing our options. Hubby, myself, and our nearly 8 yr old are big thrill ride people so that's what's drawing us...however our younger two are still too young to enjoy much of these types of rides (they are also 3 and 5.)
Another option is SeaWorld...that's where we are going for sure! I've heard it's a blast for kids of all ages. Good luck w/ your decision and have an awesome vacation!

If you're big thrill ride people, do Universal Studios. Epcot is wonderful (we love it) and has great stuff for small people like a huge aquarium, but it's geared toward older kids. There's lots of "experience another culture" stuff that will be lost on kids as young as yours, and a LOT of walking.

If you're already at Disney, I'd suggest another day at the Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom.

If you're just looking for something fun in the area, look up Gatorland. If your kids love animals, they'll have a great time - they can even feed the gators. Or, consider driving out to Kennedy Space Center or the beach.

I would have to agree with everyone else and say Epcot as well. I took my son to Universal when he was 10 and it was the perfect age. We both had a blast so wait till the kiddos are a bit older.

Good Luck and enjoy your vacation whichever one you may choose:)
