Ever Heard of Tonsil Stones- Do You Have Them?

I have been diagnosed with tonsil stones. Never heard of them but apparently they are very common. So- anyone in our community ever had them? What do you do to prevent, etc? I don't want to have to take a dose of antibiotics every time :(
Any feedback is welcome. To answer your question about the antibiotic and a little history. Not knowing what it was, I didn't go to the Doctor til they got so bad that I felt I had a hairball in my throat. My doctor had no idea and sent me to an ENT specialist. He told me about the tonsil stones, pulled out a lot of them, showed me where the little pocket is, told me that they are caused by bacteria and gave me an anti-biotic. Hence the prescription.

What can I do next?

I get them every so often. I can see a white spot on my tonsils when i get them and usully can feel them. My throat will get kind of sore. I get more when i have a cold or runny nose. They stink too.
i get them out myself and have never had antibiotics either.
You should go on youtube and put in tonsil rocks....so nasty. lol

My husband and I get these, when our sinus get bad.. They are disgusting..

Water pick is what works for me.. my husband uses a dental instrument to get his out.

I know I am getting them, when I have a slight sore throat.. Sometimes, i can feel them back there.

You for sure shouldn't have to take antibiotics every time. I have tonsil stones regularly, they are disgusting for sure but I don't even thing antibiotics will help tonsil stones. I've thought about having my tonsils removed, however.

I am also confused by the antibiotics. Do you have tonsilitis? I have had them my whole life, and I never had to take antibiotics. I usually take a flashlight, look in there, and push them out.

Yes, I developed them a couple years ago and they come and go based on how bad my sinuses are. I have never taken antibiotics for them. From what I read, a lot of people dislodge them with water pics (I don't know if it also keeps them from coming back.) Personally, I found that using mouthwash and gargling seems to prevent recurrences.

I had never heard of them before and I personally don't know anyone else who has them. I had no clue what they were until I started researching them and I actually found a lot of info on youtube and by googling their nickname "Satan's Cheese." (Lovely, isn't)

They are so gross & make me want to puke! Lol. I've had them off and on since I was a kid. I just try and push them out as soon as I get it one. Why would you take antibiotics for them? I have never heard of that.

I get them, but I have never heard of needing antibiotics for them. I usually just spit it out when it comes loose and that's that. I told my dentist about it once and he just said it's not a big deal. it's just a collection of food and other stuff that gets stuck in there sometimes.

I have gotten these numerous times before. I call them "Throat Boogers" and usually my breath gets stinky, I feel like there's something stuck in my throat & eventually I dislodge them with a good cough. Thankfully I haven't had any in a while. I have never even mentioned them to a doctor so I haven't taken any antibiotics for them. Ultimately if you don't feel comfortable about taking the antibiotics just hang on to the prescription. Hope you're feeling better. :-)

This sort of thing has been posted on this board in the past. Some funny responses too! Search it up using the search bar above. My guess is that the ENT gave you an abx since he/she may have really been digging them out. The ENT was being cautious. Usually abx treatment is not required.

I've had them for years. Nasty little buggers.

Another name is 'cryptic tonsils'.

Thanks for posting this question. I've had these for years but I didn't know what they were. My DH had them for the first time this winter then he was sick. When he asked me about it I told him I have had the same thing and its no big deal.
I almost never have to go on antibiotics when I have them. I also just get them out with my throat and my mouth. I've never used a tool of any kind.

My daughter gets them off and on at times but she has never taken an antibiotic for them.

She just gets them out herself, uses listerine and goes about her business.
