Hi Girls! My 5 month old, who is exclusively breastfed, had a significant change this past week. Consistency and frequency are the same, but it has gotten much darker and much much stinkier. Is this normal?

yes its normal. the bigger the kid gets the bigger the bm gets. once we introduced cereal to our son it made a difference.

I have a 2 1/2 month old exclusively breastfed baby. I discovered that whenever I take my vitamins hers is greenish colored. When I skip a day or two of my vitamins it goes back to yellow.

Have you added/changed any vitamins/iron in your diet? Or started your baby on a vitamin/iron?

It could also just be a new food/drink you've had a lot of lately.

My other thought is over-production. Usually stools will become looser (as if such a thing is possible with a bf baby), greenish, frothy...but my daughter's just got stinky and dark. Try single-side nursing sessions for a few days and see if it doesn't alleviate the issue. When/if your little breaks off, burp, and put right back on the same side. Just use some system to keep track of where to start next time so you don't get lop-sided!

You could also be experiencing a mild stomach virus. Breastfeed on demand to avoid potential dehydration.

It's probably just something new/different that you ate. They will change from time to time, my little girl was breastfed exclusively as well. Once you start feeding them food though (even just rice cereal), it REALLY changes! lol

What you eat will cause changes in your daughter's BMs, just as eating gassy foods can give your child gas...Also, though, a simple growth spurt can affect your child's BM without your having done anything different. If the color and consistency are nothing to worry over and it's just the smell...I wouldn't worry about it...

That wasn't my experience. You could always call the nurse and see what they say.
