Family Doc for Well Woman Visit

Hey all. I need to go in for a yearly exam but would like to go to
a family doc instead of an OB. Someone pointed out on another group I'm on that it's a good idea to have a doctor that would be able to admit you to the hospital so you don't have to just take the doc on call in the event of an emergency. So does anybody know of anybody not too far from Keller that would be good for this? Hopefully somebody that is
knowledgeable about thyroid/hormone issues and treating them naturally (Armour-not Synthroid). I am looking for a doctor that actually gets to the root of problems and tries to fix them, rather than one that just medicates to cover up the issue. I also need somebody that accepts insurance (but is all of this just too much to ask?).

What can I do next?

I really like my GP - I don't know about her specialties in terms of thyroid/hormone issues or if she can admit you directly to the hospital, but it's worth a call. If she or her PA doesn't want to discuss these types of issues wiht a potential new patient, then she wouldn't be worth your time anyway! My experience with her and her staff is that thye take their time, are very knowledgable on new treatments, etc., are open to naturally doing things (as opposed to justing prescribing). Dr. Debra Krieg, 4100 Heritage Trace Pkwy #116, Keller, ###-###-####. Good luck!

I think you may be setting your expectations too high. Many GP's will not do well woman examinations because their practices are so busy, and if they do, it is likely there is a reason, i.e. new practice or not a great doctor. Even if you find a practicioner, they may not see you when you are in the hospital, most MD's do not directly admit and will have you go through the ER anyway. Then there is the issue of whether or not they will see you while you are there. It may be a them or a partner, but today many doctor's admit to what is often referered to as an "in house" doctor or a hospitalist, someone that specializes in hospital care. It has it's pluses and minuses. They are there and the nurses don't have to wait forever for your doctor to call them back for issues, but they don't have a previous knowledge of you so you will have to be your own advocate and know your health history. Plus, many MD's will have deals with a couple of hospitals, not necessarily any hospital. You may not even like the hospital they have privelages at or it may not be the most accessable when you need it. It depends on what kind of insurance you have whether or not it will be accepted. You can call you insurance company or the doctors office and give them you information before you make an appointment. I also would not hold out high hopes on finding a doctor that supports natural healing. Medicating to cover up an issue is an American Medical speciality. Most doctors are not trained to know about natural cures and don't have the time or ambition to find out more. You may have better luck with an osteopath or naturapath(most likely won't take insurance). You may also have more luck with a midwife for your female issues that could refer you to someone that is familiar with natural healing. I don't mean to be so negative, just realistic. Good luck with your search! Let me know if I can help you in any way! C.
