Father / Mothers Day Question

Do you give gifts to your parents from your children' for Fathers/Mothers Day? I was just wondering because I didn't get anything for my or my MIL from the kids for Mother's Day so I'd feel bad doing it for Father's Day. But I just saw a post on what to get grandpa for Father's Day so I was wondering?

I am already buying something for my husband from me and from the kids and for each of our fathers...do I really need an additional gift from my kids? I could just have them make something like a card, but was just wondering what others do?

September 12th is Grandparents Day so I just wonder how many people do gifts on that day instead?

I already got my father something for his birthday/Father's Day combined so he's getting a card from me. My FIL will be getting a gift and card from us. Daddy is getting a gift from our kids (and I got him a gift).

Thanks for letting me know!

What can I do next?

McMama,

You do not need extra gifts. Grandparents generally love any handmade card from their grandchildren. If they are too small a store bought card will do. I think the best presents in this case are framed photo's of the grandchildren each year because they grow so fast and change so much over the year.

Blessings...

I personally don't - I think it has been way to commercialized, you see cards "happy fathers day from your grandchild", that to me is ridiculous!

I also don't observe the grandparents day - maybe I'm just mean

Some might consider it another form of commercialism, but I think any excuse or reminder to show appreciation for those who are a part of your life is nice =)

Doesn't have to be anything fancy or even a card. Maybe just a quick phone call and wish them "Happy Mother/Father's day."

I responded to the other post regarding this question b/c I think that gift-giving is getting a little out-of-control and somehow buying more gifts has started to feel burdensome... and I end-up buying a gift card b/c I can't come up with anything creative and not overly expensive!

I buy a father's day gift for the following people...
- My father
- My FIL (with my husband's name signed)
- My husband (with my son's name signed)

I buy Father's Day cards for the following...
- My grandfather
- My husband's grandfather
- My father and FIL (signed by my son)
- Any "father" in the family who is celebrating his first Father's Day (it's a big deal and should be acknowledged)

Same goes for Mother's Day! We send cards to the grandparents on grandparent's day with a piece of my son's art and a new picture.

My husband and I give our parents gifts from us. We always have the kids make something for Grandma and Grandpa on Mothers/Fathers day. This year I went to Michaels and git them a ceramic cup that they colored with markers, it only cost 1.99. Some years we just paint pictures. I never go out and buy a gift. I think they like the homemade ones better!!

What I do is get cards/presents for my husband (from our kids), my dad/FIN and stepFIN (from me and my husband), a card for my Grandpa (we are close) and I have my kids make homemade cards and/or presents for my dad and my husband (my kids are extremely close to my dad). Sometimes, we'll make little books (just staple pieces of paper/construction paper together and have them write/color) and one of my favorites is to draw their handprints, cut them out and position them into the shape of a heart, glue them onto a bigger piece of construction paper and let them decorate them. It's neat to see how the hands grow every year. It's simple, cheap and they love them and the thought the kids put into them :-)

For fathers day, I give a small family gift to my father and stepfather, my husband gives a small family gift to his.

When our daughter was young, I always included a special photo we took of our daughter and she would hand make the card for each of her grandfathers on fathers day.

Now the guys have mostly asked that we not give gifts, but go to a meal with them. I still take a small token. My father loves the movies, I give him a gift card to a local theater, my stepfather loves sweets and my mom keeps a tight rein on him, so I give him a gift card to Marie Calendar's for pies or candy from a local candy company. My husband gives his dad, some kind of fancy beer, steaks or cigars.

We really do not do anything for grandparents day except call.

On Father's Day, Daddy gets a gift from his kids. Grandpa does not, he is not "Daddy". He does, however, get a nice phone call from HIS son, as does MY dad from me. But not from our kids. Same as Mother's Day. I called my mom to wish her a Happy Mother's Day, hubby did the same for HIS mom and our kids made me some nice homemade gifts. I got nothing from my husband (I'm not his mom) but peace and quiet and a day off from "mothering". Likewise, on Father's Day, he can do whatever he wants, I'll handle the kids all day. Grandparents Day?!?! Never even heard of it...Hallmark must be making up holidays left and right! Is there an Aunt's Day or Cousin's Day...Pet Dog Day? Anything to get us to buy more cards and gifts, I guess...

I tried this with my son to my parents and honestly, my parents felt odd about it. So now he just gets them a card with his picture in it and I get them a gift. But I don't think all grandparents would feel this way. I guess it depends on your famliy?
We do celebrate Grandparents Day. For that we get them gifts.
