Favorite Laundry Detergent?

I am trying to find a new laundry detergent, and I wondered what tried & true products you can recommend. I need something to make my whites less dingy, and something to keep my colors from fading. I don't mind using different brands for different loads! Right now I am using Green Works detergent and Method fabric softener on my colors, and Arm & Hammer detergent along with BioKleen brightener on my towels and whites. I used to use Melaleuca but can no longer afford to stay with it. Help!

I agree with the other Melaleuca people. Not only do I like it for my clothes, I save money using their products rather than other store brands and very importantly for my kids - I am also being better for the environment.

I also use MelaPower (detergent) and MelaBrite (brightener). It's through Melaleuca and I absolutely LOVE it! I got that on my first order and one bottle has lasted me about 6 months, so a huge savings for my family! Also, it's only $1 to sign up this month so I would give it a try! Message me if you want more info :) -S.

Okay, heres the real deal. Usually, you get what you pay for. About a year ago I laundered 2 brand new brown bathrugs in separate loads, one in All detergent in cold water, and one in Walmart brand detergent also in cold water. One of my dark brown bathrugs came out almost tan! That was with All detergent. If you use Sun, All, Surf or Purex your clothes will fade very quickly. Tide is great, but its very strongly scented and more expensive. The Walmart brand has been my choice lately because it works great for the price!

I like Cheer. And I use Clorox 2 for bright colors.
I add some Clorox bleach to the whites and use Hot water. I usually use the "free" variety of Downy fabric softener... the liquid is white.
For anything stained (mud, grass, oil, pizza sauce) I use Shout.

I see that I am unusual in that I don't use all "natural" products. Sorry... but I love my Cheer and Shout, and have been complimented many times over the years about the brightness and whiteness of my kids' clothes.

I have to use unscented detergent. I get sick from the perfumed ones in my home, on my clothes or bedding, and even on other people's clothing. (When my mom rides in the car with me, I have to keep windows open no matter what the weather, and I still get uncomfortably ill.)

Anne-Marie is right about adding cheap, natural, and completely non-toxic laundry boosters – baking soda and vinegar – to your wash. There's also washing soda, very similar to baking soda in action, perhaps a little stronger. Don't add soda and vinagar during the same cycle, however, because they'll foam up like the popular science experiment that they are, and cancel each other out (no danger, though).

Another brightener you can add to colorfast or white fabrics is Seventh Generation's chlorine free bleach that's made from hydrogen peroxide. To minimize fading of other clothes, turn them inside out to reduce the amount of scrubbing they get during the wash.

BTW, melaleuca (also known as tea tree oil) has been shown to occasionally cause breast enlargement in little boys, and is worrisome to researchers for its possible long-term effects on girls, too, for its estrogen-mimicking action. (Same for lavender oil). It has very good applications for specific problems like toenail fungus, but I sure wouldn't want to have it in multiple products that my kids are exposed to daily. You can easily google lots of research on this.

Melaleuca is only $1 through the end of the month. Enroll for one dollar now and stock up. If you can't meet the minimum order, see if any of your friends want to place orders through you. Melaleuca products are amazing!! I use them for EVERYTHING!

Well the best is Shaklee's Laundry concentrate. If you're looking for chemical free and it works better than most. Bleach and other additives have ingredients that are harmful for your home family and of course the earth. It's not about affording it, it is about redirecting your spending and knowing what chemicals you are using. Do some research

I have a recipe using both that will remove most stains. This is non-toxic stuff that works better than anything I have ever used. Can use on baby clothes too.

Okay peeps, this is why Melaleuca is expensive. You need MelaPower, MelaBrite, Pre-Spot, and So-U-Mel dumped in the wash to get the best results. Seriously, this is what I was told when I asked the company why my clothes were not coming clean.

LimaBean......love the screen name, btw, it's super cute! :) I use BioKleen, Ecos, Seventh Generation or Ecover for washing. Whatever strikes my fancy (and my wallet) at the time. I found out a couple of weeks ago that I LOVE using scent free detergent with a 1/2 cup vinegar and about a 1/4 cup of baking soda in the wash with some essential oils. CRAZY clean clothes! And they smell so fresh! Vinegar also doubles as a softener and the nasty scent disappears in the wash. Amazing. And so cheap it's beautiful.
Peace!

Shaklee laundry detergent; add Nature Bright to boost whites. My entire family used to give me their stained clothes their laundry detergent couldn't get out. They all finally switched to Shaklee.

I love Shaklee's laundry products. You can find them at http://www.shaklee.net/healthforlife
They are very concentrated so the cost per load is less than any other product and they work great. You don't have to order something every month to keep your discount either. Oprah has featured them on her show many times and they are used at the White House, the VP's residence and by the Cousteau Society.
I can send you samples if you would like to try them first.

I also use Melaleuca products and like yourself love them too. I decided to build the business. That is really the best solution because it will pay for your products that you love. You don't have to be a full time focused business builder. Just someone that loves the products and needs help getting them paid for. I wish you the best in finding something for yourself that works. :))

I'm a Tide girl all the way. I have tried many times to use less expensive brands (Arm & Hammer, etc.) but I keep coming back to Tide. The other brands just don't clean as well.
