I am going to assume that you took in a feral kitten, it is an outdoor cat, that has disapeared a couple times. Did you have the cat fixed? This helps it stay around the house, plus the over population. I took in a cat that someone dumped, it isn't feral, but will never be a totally indoor cat. It depends on how hungry the cat is if it will go into trap. I would just leave water and some dry food out for it. They will come back to where they know to get food. My ex caught a feral kitten for me once, it was always mean, and bit for blood. We ended up taking it to a friend's house out in the country and it became a barn kitty.
