Finding Nemo....

I came across this article and was just amazed that a group wants to have a city build a sign to memorialize fish that died in an accident in Irvine, CA.

My boys saw his and said - "okay, they are fish. But why do they need a sign? They were going to "die" any way."

yeah. My boys can be observant sometimes! :) really though. why is this necessary? doesn't it make people look a tad unhinged (for lack of better words)?

Would you want a sign put up to memorialiize the fish that were lost? I personally think signs like that should be for humans. It would lead to "well, you did it for the fish - my dog/cat/llama, etc. deserves the same!!!

Your thoughts?

It's weird. I used to work at Bass Pro, (a hunting and fishing store), PETA came to protest it.

Soooo, some yahoo in a fish costume jumped in front of my car with his lovely little protest sign and almost became chopped tuna. Luckily I slammed on my breaks just in time, and barely missed him.

So, if I had run him down, I guess I could see a sign saying, "Oh here lies a slain fish...well, a guy in a fish costume anyway." Uggh, nutgall

ETA Nutgall! It's a typo but I like it.

So they want to put up a memorial sign for fish that died in a car crash while on their way to market to be killed???

......... Makes sense to me! :p

You know, PETA really needs to focus on something better than this.

It's ridiculous, is what it is. I suppose I should put up a little sign in my kitchen, where countless stinkbugs have lost their lives...do you think PETA would fund my stinkbug memorial sign?

Okay, well it's an agenda being pushed by PETA, nuf said.

However, if I were crazy, and I'm not (I think?!;), I do understand a tiny bit that PETA is upset. I mean, originally these fish were to be used as food and then with the crash, they couldn't even feed someone, so truly these fish died in vain. They served no purpose to anyone, we wasted fossil fuels, people may have gotten hurt and no one got to eat the darn things!

But, it was an accident, not an attack (although I wouldn't put that past PETA either) and sometimes unfortunate things happen...but that doesn't mean they deserve a sign!

If I put up a sign for every household pet that has died in my lifetime, I'd own a highway (not that we are serial animal killers. We have just owned a LOT of pets).
EDIT - helps to clink on the article - OK, next time I eat sushi, I will bring a sign to memoralize my dinner.

Darn it you posted finding nemo and I busted through the post door huffing and puffing lol. Anyways:

I do feel the same way. It is amost unrealistic to do something like this for a fish or a lot of fish either way.. really?!?!

Did their death serve some greater purpose? Did they die saving say a dog, cause we all know no fish would give their life for a cat! :p

I guess that to me is the what is the purpose. What would the sign say. X number of fish died here?

I guess I see memorials as having a purpose. Even the little ones where some teen died in a drunk driving accident reminds us not to drive drunk.

What are we supposed to learn from a random accident that happened to involve a truck that was transporting fish? Carry fish by hand?

Seems to have passed the stupid test.

I suppose it would be in really bad taste if the sign was near a Red Lobster or other seafood restaurant.
Kind of makes me want to break out the lemon juice and butter and have some seafood for supper tonight.
Peta gets a wee bit odd sometimes.

Seriously!?!?! I'm sorry animals lost their lives, I get that but is this really what we should be spending $ on in this economy? in this world? when that $ could create so much more good? Feed some people in memory of the fish if you want to!!! A sign that will be graffittied and no one will care about 10 minutes later...Sorry, that's dumb.

I think one of the greatest things about our great Nation is the freedom of speech. What a great teaching moment. You may not agree with what PETA is trying to say or the approach that they are taking or even the money that's being spent on it but the wonderful thing is that they have the freedom to do that. How awesome is that?!?
