Hello everyone. We just returned from our 3week trip to Indiana. We were welcomed home by about 1,000 fire ants. We vacuumed them up and thought that we found the entry point and sealed it. Well the buggers found a new whole. We can tell the apartments but chances are they will tell us to wait until the next time they spray which could be several days. Meanwhile they are feeding on my baby!
Does Raid work? Is it safe near my daughter's bed (she's 3yrs old)? Will it leave a residue? That is were they are swarming. What can we do to fight back? Is there something that we can use to prevent these attacks. We don't eat/drink in our bedrooms. Is this really just a fact of Texas life? They are carrying off pieces of my sanity with them! Please help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

These were ants. I caught a couple in a jar just incase. We are fairly new to the area, so we are still getting to know about the pests and such. We moved here a month ago, then we went on a 3 week vacation. I haven't had much experiance with this apartment. The last apartment had just regular, non-biting ants. They had a service that came out to take care of it, but they only came on Wed. When we called the Estates(the new apartment), they were able to send someone out that day to spray.
DD wasn't in any danger since we had moved her to our bedroom. We just wanted our bedroom back someday. Anyway. They are all gone and I am armed with a can of RAID incase they return!
Thanks for your help.

Are you kidding? You better tell the apartment complex to get someone out there immediately! I thi nk something like that would make the place considered uninhabitable and they have an obligation to take care of it right away. I would tell them as soon as possible, and bother them every day if you have to until they get the place sprayed. That's ridiculous! Your child should not have to live with ant bites if you're paying for an apartment that's supposed to be bug-free. In the meantime, i think Raid is safe to use, as long as you're not spraying something that she'll be putting her mouth on. Hope you can get rid of them!

I Sprayed my house inside and out. But, around my daughter's bed, etc. I placed ant baits. They work like roach motels but are white and for ants.

That doesn't sound like fire ants! You'd better get the
apartment manager, it sounds more like termites!

Gardenville has a wonderful organic, natural solution that is safe to use around children and pets. It works wonders.

Also, Worldwide Pest Control says they have a natural product they can use indoors that is also safe and very effective.

We had a horrible ant problem. I know how frustrating it can be...especially with a small child.

Good luck!
