FYI...in need, babies fit inside ice chests just fine and ice chest float. So should you run into trouble, dump the ice chest and sit the baby inside the ice chest and she will have her own little raft.
Good Morning Mamas! I need some tips for taking my eighteen month old on her first river trip. She is used to wearing the life jacket, loves riding in the boat, and always loves her baths and swimming in the pool with Mommy. We are going to mostly hang out on the sandbar and relax, but if anyone has any tips to share I would love it! Thanks.
Thank you all soo much! I was very nervous to take her out there between the heat and the it being the first time. We packed lots of sand toys, her pool floatie, tons of water and juice boxes, fruits, and sunscreen! She had a blast, she is our little river rat now!

swim shirts & lots of sunscreen. pack lots of cool drinks & snacks like gogurts, grapes, string cheese, etc.
I find the water where everyone congregates (the shore, sand bar, etc) to be really gross. People spill food, drinks, etc and pee in it. My kids swim in it, but I won't let them put their heads under. Ewwwww!
A big raft that has an inner area for water is always a safe place to play too!
We've been going to the river forever. 2 most important things water and sunscreen. :) Pack plenty of it, if you have a hat and sunglasses I'd use those too. It's pretty bright out there and can burn their eyes. I buy tons of fruit for our trips as well - watermelon and grapes are refreshing out there.
To entertain her - a little floaty of some sort for the water and sand toys is really all you need.
Enjoy!
My girls love the river! They are easily entertained with sand toys (pail, shovel) and chilled fruits, cheeses, etc. as snacks. Use a rash guard type swimsuit and apply lots of sunscreen plus lots of cold juices and h2o! Have fun!
keep hydrated, pack plenty of water for her to drink and cold snacks. most important, have fun!
