Yeah that sounds like thrush to me. My baby had it when she was around that age and it made her entire tounge white. It doesnt wipe off with a cloth, well it will but you have to put a lot of prussure and it bleeds. Thats the old way of handling thrush. What you should do is gently see if it comes off, if it does not then call your doctor and tell him whats wrong. He may not need to see the baby if you tell him the symptoms and have the number to your phramacy he can just phone in a prescription for you. I've never heard of a baby's tounge turning white from formala, just thrush.

This is very normal for formula fed babies. Take a baby washcloth, wet it, put if over your index finger and wipe your baby's tongue. The baby may not like it, but it gets rid of the build-up and this does not hurt the baby. Do this a few times per week. His tongues will still be white, but not as bad if you didn't do it at all. Also, you can give your baby a small amount of lukewarm water in a bottle if he will drink it. My son, 7 weeks old, acts like the water is poison and won't sip it! But I use the cloth with him and I also did it with my daughter, who is now 3. I believe they sell tongue cleaners for infants in baby stores. Check it out.

Hi J.,
Just wanted to throw some info out there for you. I don't know much about formula, but the white spots may be thrush. My daughter had it when she was a baby. If the white spots do not scrape off, you may want to check with a doctor. It's annoying, but easily cured with antibiotics. Good luck.
