Yes, you should give your child the fluoride supplement. I just moved here from Ohio and we always had fluoridated water. Here, since my son is older, I have him use a fluoride rinse. It will help prevent cavities.
Hi,
I am a first time mom of a 9 month old baby boy. He has recently gotten 4 teeth. Thank goodness that is over;) My doctor gave me a prescription for a multi-vitamin with flouride supplementation. I live in Maryland and apparently there is no flouride in the water. My son already takes a multi-vitamin that I completely believe in and will not change. Is anyone in a similar situation where they are told to give their child a flouride supplementation? Thank you, H.
Thank you everyone for their responses. I ended up calling my Dr. and getting flouride drops, while keeping my little one on his same vitamins he's been taking. I am going to look into the "nursery water". Thanks again!

I have 3 kids - NO CAVITIES. 12yrs, 8yrs and 14mths. Ask your doctor to give you the fluoride DROPS. You can then use your current vitamin supplement along with it. Also, there is a nursery water you can buy now on the shelf at your super market that has the fluoride in it. It's called 'nursery water' and if you read the label it says 'contains fluoride'. That's what we use because our water is from the county but has no fluoride either.
my kids take a flouride supplement because we have well water. Our pediatrician prescribed it.I do not know about the flouride for a 9 month old. Their pills are small and purple and we chew them after we brush teeth. We also use a flouride rinse, but you have to worry about them swallowing it. Good luck. Contact your dentist and inquire about the flouride treatments available for your son.
Hi,
I also live in an area with no flouride in the water (Southeast, PA). My pediatrician also gave my daughter a prescription for a multi-vitamin with flouride supplementation when her teeth first came in at 10 months. I later found out that the prescription was available with or WITHOUT the multivitamins combined. So, we now opt to get a FLOURIDE-ONLY supp., and we give her a multivitamin that we buy separately. Definitely ask your doctor if you can get the flouride supp. separate from the multivitamin if you'd like to keep giving him your preferred vitamin. As far as I have been told (by pedi. and dentist), it is VERY important that you do continue with a flouride supplement if your water is not flouridated.
Hope this helps!
